Fits properly for my model blender.
I rebuilt my blender carafe by replacing the bearings and the base. Worked good fit properly. Will order again when it leaks again.

Is it REALLY the same nut?
I have been upgrading my Vitamix 5000 lately, and have been ordering the new Tritan containers, which work beautifully with the old 5000 base. One of my purchases was a 32 ounce container without blades or nut, because I wanted to use a blade and nut from one of my older containers that had cracked. The blade fits fine, but the old nut was too large. As other people have found out, the 32 oz. container sits inside the lugs of the base, requiring a smaller nut. I ordered this nut, per the descriptions and other reviews, and it arrived today. Right out of the box I was skeptical it would work! It doesn't look like the picture Amazon has posted, and it's different than the nuts on the brand new containers I ordered directly from Vitamix! The diameter IS the same, and the threads fit the old and new blade assemblies just like they should, but instead of having a thick coat of paint, it has a rubberized coating. Instead of having the new orange gasket, the "gasket" is formed as part of the rubberizing. The nut is also thicker by about an eighth of an inch. Now the good (?) news: I took the nut (painted with orange gasket) off my new 32 oz. dry container and put this nut (rubberized, integral gasket, thicker) on it. If the gasket isn't going to seal well, it shouldn't be too much of a problem if I'm grinding dry ingredients and then just doing a quick wash with soapy water. I'll keep an eye on it, though. The nut I took off the new 32 oz. dry container will now go on the new bare 32 oz. container with my older wet blade. I tried both containers on the 5000 base, and everything works...

Good replacement for the Vitamix 6300 retainer nut
The original part was rusted and expanded and wouldn't seat properly on the motor base. The new part went on quickly and appears to be metal with plastic/rubber coating. I was concerned that entire part would be plastic.

Though it works
If it leaks which it is right now it leaks black paint. if it had been the metal color it would not leak black.

Fits my 1782 TurboBlend (VM0102) 64oz Container
I got this because mine was rusted and warped. I called Vitamix first to see if they could send me a replacement retainer nut, but they said they didn't have that part and offered me a discount on a new container. I got this instead and I am perfectly happy that I did. Works fine, feels quality, no leaks or issues so far. No need to buy the special tool unless you don't have a screwdriver or something to use as a lever and a guy with some elbow grease to unscrew the nut (counterclockwise) from the base of the container. Fit the container on my 1782 TurboBlend 2 Speed (Model # VM0102) and looks like it would fit my mom's newer 5200 Professional-Grade 64oz container as well. The retainer nut this replaced had the part # ASY172 C, but I would guess that if the nut on your container looks like this one, it probably fits.

Perfect fit for my older vitamix nut
The retaining nut on my 10+ year old vitamix 64 ounce container (part # began ASY#### - I forgot the 4 #s) was rusted and cracked so I bought this as a replacement and it fits perfectly. No need to spend $200 on a new container.

Great replacement
This was a perfect replacement for my vitamix. I had been putting my vitamix container in the dishwasher and over time this piece started to rust and break in half. I am so glad I found this replacement part because I thought I had to buy a completely new container.
