I have a Grizzly G0453P planer I saw some reviews that made me leery of buying these but I did some research and found a great video on Grizzly which showed exactly how to use these. Yes, if you have a Grizzly the chip deflector has to be PARTIALLY disassembled but that only added a few minutes. I am NOT "mechanically inclined" and was able to replace my blades accurately using these. 1. DO NOT remove the blades first. You set the existing blade height with these and then remove the blades. 2. Watch the entire Planer Pal video on the Grizzly web site before using these. It will save you a lot of frustration. 3. Be patient. Getting a precision fit takes a few tries. It took me a while to get it right on the first blade but once I figured it out the other two went pretty quickly. The entire job from start to finish took me two hours. Next time will be half of that now that I know what to do. Tip: After replacing the gib and blade, tighten the two end gib nuts just enough to hold the blade semi-firmly at a height slightly higher than where you think it will end up. Then use the Planer Pals at each end to push down on the blade til it is sitting correctly. If the end gib nuts are to tight you won't be able to push the blade down and if they're too loose it will drop lower than the Planer Pal setting block. It takes a few tries but eventually you'll find the exact pressure that allows the blade to be pushed down but not drop.

Works well, but one thing to keep in mind...
First time I’ve ever had to set knives on a planer before. This thing made it foolproof. Only thing to keep in mind (and it’s not a knock on this product) is that if your knives aren’t set properly before you use this, they won’t be set properly after you use this. The previous owner of my planer did a miserable job setting the knives, so while this tool made it easy to replicate the placement once I got it right, it did nothing to help me actually find the correct setting to start with. Again, not a problem with the tool, just want to make sure buyers understand that this thing works only if you have a properly setup planer to start with.

Makes changing planer knives a breeze
I love this jig. It makes changing my planer knives so easy. Now that I have this, I'll definitely be sharpening my knives more often!

Don't stop here
One important rule that isn't mentioned in the description is that if your knives are already out of the machine or not properly adjusted... forget it. I found that they helped in the installation but you're going to need a good dial indicator rig if you want to get it right. If you can live with five to ten thousandths off, then you might get by with these alone. I ended-up setting one blade pretty much by many trials and errors and then set the two pals to get the other three close. Then I used the dial indicator to "Dial-it-in". BROKEN/MISSING PIN
I was so excited to receive this item because I needed to replace the blades on my planer. However, when I received it, it was missing a pin so it was completely useless... I didn't have time to wait for a new set so I fashioned a pin out of a piece of solid copper wire. I am happy with the function of the jig, just not the state I received it.

I think the vernier type might have worked better for me. Though in the end I was able to set up my planer satisfactorily.
