The Good: This stuff works (see updated review at bottom)

I have a 2100 gallon pond. I tried naturally fighting our string algae this year (2016) naturally with other plants, which compete for the nutrients in the water with the algae, as well as feeding the pond filters with beneficial bacteria. Nothing seemed to work as the string algae was getting a little out of hand. The Good: This stuff works. It kills algae and does it pretty quickly. I would say within a week you will see a noticeable difference. It's flat out amazing as I haven't seen too many things, if any, ever really work vs string algae. No longer. If you want string algae gone, this is the stuff... Ultimately I'd recommend at some point getting in the pond, while it's dying back and pulling some of the remaining or dead algae one last time. The algae on the rocks will seemingly disappear. But any large strong algae clumps will eventually need pulled out. The Bad: 1) it cuts oxygen in the water which could be a danger to your fish. Having said that, I was sure to keep both our waterfalls running and I put in our aerator for even more oxygen in the water. The fish did fine and showed no signs of distress. 2) It's harmful for plants. This is the biggest downfall. After applying this product, within 1-2 weeks I noticed our water lilies had several dying pads and our water lettuce were all gone and had this whitish film on them. However, the cattails, bullrush & pickerel weed all did fine. For the record your water lilies will not die. You just won't have many pads and/or flowers while these brings are still dissolving in your water. They grow back after the bricks are gone. The bricks last about 3-4 weeks. Would I recommend? Yes. In an instant. But if you want your plants to thrive, I would only use this product as a means for knocking out string algae to kill it off while you're preparing your pond to fight off the algae when the bricks dissolve. I'm currently applying a sludge reducer (the stuff algae feeds off of) as well as adding beneficial bacteria. That coupled with trying to get a lot of pond coverage for shade (you should shoot for at very least 60% of your pond service covered), and that will be a good start. (pics after product has been applied attached. Sorry about the no before pics. Trust me it was there) **Update a few months later** After some time I had to downgrade this product down a couple of stars from my original review. This product while working very well simply kills plants about the same rate it kills the algae. I have tried lesser doses. Nothing works. Once you get to a level were the algae starts to die off, so will your plants. Back to the drawing board.

Kills string algae in ponds but doesn't hurt animals

Works very well on string algae! I have a 800 gallon turtle pond that became overgrown with the algae due to the chlorine in the replenish water. I threw in 10 pods all around and in 2 weeks it was gone. Highly recommend

Clean pond

After using various products, I found pond block to use in my pondless water feature. Although not perfect, it did keep much of the algae down throughout the summer. I like being able to use one block a week and forgetting about it. I did find that you need to find the best place for the block. Initially I put it where the water was constantly running over it. This caused the tablet to melt after about a day. Once I moved the block where there was less water flow, it lasted about 7 days. Overall, I am pleased with this product.

This cleaned up most of my algae

I've used liquid algae killer and never really knew if I added enough. With these blocks, I threw two in my pond and it started to clear up. Every week I add one to the filter return and it helps. In fact I can't remember when I last was able to see the stones at the bottom. Also, my pond plants didn't suffer and die as some people has posted.

Keeps rocks free of slime and algae

I regularly use this in my outdoor waterfall to eliminate slime and algae. It is safe for fish.
