Exact Replacement Right-Hand Spring for 7ft Garage Door

This is the exact replacement torsion spring for my 7ft garage door. It has the exact identical specifications as the old one – (.250 inch x 2 inch x 32 inch). This is the “right-Hand wind” spring, which is the one on the left side if you’re looking at both springs from the inside and standing under the garage door opener. I really can’t say much about build quality but comparing it to the one being replaced that lasted over 15 years, this Prime-Line spring just looks and feels of a far better product overall and should last just as long, if not longer. As for installation, for the DIY savvy replacing a garage door torsion spring can take time but isn’t as hard. Understanding the process and exercising caution especially winding the springs is a must, as well as using the right tools for the job. For the non or limited DIY savvy folks, replacing such spring can be dangerous and isn’t a beginner’s project. It is best handled by professionals or more experienced individuals.

Great Price, Quality !

This is a quality product. Make sure you measure your spring. Also remember the right side spring looking at the door from the inside is LEFT and the left side is RIGHT. Also buy the winding rods. If you have only one spring no unwinding. If you have two use the rods (and only use the RODS to unwind). Mark both cable pulleys to shaft. Then loosen the pulley set screws. Unhook cable from both and hang on door. Mark center bracket that supports shaft for latter install. With only one spring, slide the pulley on the spring less side in away from the end bracket. The loosen the spring at the center and check the plastic bushing. There is only one, even if you have two springs. The loosen the hub side of the broken spring. (make sure there is no tension, this is the side you wind with the rods (ONLY THE RODS). slide the whole shaft away from the side with the spring to be able to remove the pulley on the spring side. Remove spring. Install new spring and reinstall the removed pulley. Wind cable on first pulley and align the marks (you placed earlier on pulley "both sides" and shaft. Tighten pulley with marks on shaft aligned. Take a vice grip and clamp shaft so cable now installed on pulley cannot unwind. Vice grip will be against wall. Do same on other side, wind cable on pulley and then align marks. Shaft will not move. Door is now balanced. Now attach spring to center bracket. Make sure bushing is in place. align shaft with mark on bracket from before. Once spring is tight we now move to winding side. Use winding rods, you can buy them on Amazon. (ONLY WINDING RODS). place one rod at a time and start to wind. One quarter turn at a time, placing one ROD then another. 30 quarter turns. Support rod on last turn and lock in spring, with both locking bolts/pins. Once this is done remove ROD and remove Vice Grip. check door.

Nice quality replacement door spring.

I bought these as they were the closest match to the springs that broke on my residential torsion spring garage door. My door is an insulated aluminum 4 panel door, 7' tall and 2 cars wide. I did buy the left hand wind spring to compliment this one because I did want to replace them in pairs. So, the spring itself was properly marked, it did have the indicator paint, and set screws. It had instructions taped to the spring with a table indicating how much lift each color could have, but fat load of good that does when clearly the spring has already arrived. It does not include any winding bars. So, installed these on 6/15/15 - they're stronger springs than I had before, so they required a bit less winding. The construction looks good and safe. I didn't notice any issues with the springs themselves upon installation. Some fiddling around, and I was able to repair my garage myself and get each spring set so it raises and lowers just fine. Now, these are prime - but it did take 4 days to reach me. That was 4 doors of not having my garage door work which very much upset me. Amazon gave me a $5 refund on the order, so $0.05 per hour that I couldn't use my garage. Thanks. . . But you can't fault the product for that. So, 4/5 stars right now because its too soon to say how durable they are. I would say 5, but because while it would be easy to include winding rods, they choose not to. Knowing they're selling through amazon which can be sold directly to the end user also. Maybe make it an option like sizing or something.

Excellent product, saved me hundreds of dollars on the repair!

I had the springs break on my garage door after 12 years which I understand is about normal. I called a repair shop and was shocked to hear they wanted to charge me over $300 to repair the double-wide garage door. So I shopped at the typical lowes and home depot for replacement springs and the replacement springs were very expensive. Thought I would just check on amazon and sure enough, they carried the same springs at about half the cost of the hardware stores... So I decided to take on the project myself and am pleased to report that it went very smoothly. I did do my homework and watched youtube videos that walk you thru the DIY project. Obviously, the springs are under a lot of pressure and someone could get seriously injured if you don't follow instructions to the letter so if you are not confident in your ability to follow instructions to the letter... better pay the money and let an expert do it. Having said that, I was careful and followed the instructions on youtube carefully and got the springs changed out with no issues. It took me about 2 hours but that was mostly because I was going very slowly and carefully since I had never done it before. If I ever have to do it again, I think it is about an hour project. The new springs work great and the garage door opener works great. I saved myself a bundle by using amazon and doing it myself. I won't say it is a simple job but certainly within reach of someone who has basic mechanical skills AND is willing to do their homework and follow instructions exactly.

Quality product at a reasonable price.

First off. Confidence, Competent, Careful. Do not attempt this job unless you have all 3. You can severely injure or kill yourself doing this job. I upgraded from 28x2x.240 to these heavier springs. Install was an hour. I lost half a turn but the door is balanced like butter. I can lift it with my baby finger and it stays put. The door opener has an easy life. I got 7 years from the smaller springs. Hoping for 10 min from these .

Worked great on my garage door. I would have liked to have more instruction on how to install it, but if you know what you are doing, this is definitely a good buy!
