No idea how many stars to give, I threw it away.

After opening the package I realized I had made a mistake in ordering it, so I threw it away. I did not realize that for the product to be useful I would need a length of plastic tubing to attach to the top of it. I do not have a supply of plastic tubing, that's why I went looking for a siphon on Amazon.com. The instructions included in the package show the device attached to plastic tubing. Why not just spot me a couple of feet of plastic tubing? How much could it have cost you? Twenty cents? I wanted a product to siphon liquid from one glass container to the other, it's my bad I should have examined the photo of the product more closely and realized it can't do that without making a mess, on account of there is no plastic tubing. I am going to try buying a siphon at the pet store (made for aquariums) maybe it will be more suitable. At least they spot you some plastic tubing. As far as throwing the product away, it is pretty long so I broke it over my knee to fit it into the trash basket, and pieces of plastic scattered everywhere. If you break yours, make sure to pick up all the pieces as they can be quite sharp.

Great Tool for Homebrewers

Pros -Very simple to use. Just a couple strokes and you're good to go. -The inner siphon is easily removable. Part of the cap at the bottom of the outer tube is also removable. -There is a half inch of protection against sediment, which helps prevent clogging and keeps your liquid clear. Cons -Can be tricky to clean if you don't have a pipe cleaner. The bottom cap doesn't come off completely, so you have to fiddle with it a bit to get it totally clean. It's not that bad, but it can be tricky. -Some people have said it breaks easily. Sure, it's plastic. Just be careful with it. Mine has gotten smacked around a bit and it's still fine.

Works so much better than a regular siphon

You can't get much easier a tool for starting the siphon when racking a beverage. The only issue I found, more like discovered one day, was that you need to remove the inner pump completely and clean the rubber edging well. The first couple of times using this I didn't know about stuff seeping past the seal and found a bit of moldy crud on it that could definitely have affected the wine if gone unchecked. Taking the whole thing apart after using it was also much easier to clean than attempting to just keep pumping soapy water through the siphon mechanism.

Sucks and Pumps as it's meant to do.

This is my weekly workhorse. If your looking for an auto siphon, use this one! Cheap, but well constructed. The valve at the bottom is fairly liquid tight so it helps when you pull it out to keep it clean. the seal is good and tight and keeps a solid flow. Not much to complain about here. I do recommend using a zip tie or a pipe clamp to hold the hose on, as the top of the tube is not tapered out to hold the hose

Great auto-siphon

This is a must have item for any brewer/vinter comes with the anti-sediment tip to limit getting all the nasty stuff at the bottom so less racking is needed to clear wines don't forget to get around 6 feet or so of vinyl tubeVinyl Tubing - 10 feet 5/16 ID - 7/16 OD (Food Grade) for the tip because one is not included, but is needed to create the siphon effect. all and all GREAT GREAT item makes moving liquids a breeze also if you want to fill bottles easy and without a mess get the spring loaded bottle filler and your all set.Spring Loaded Beer Bottle Filler

A great siphon for homebrewing

A great siphon for homebrewing. As long as you hold it above the lees it will siphon off a 5 gallon carboy in a matter or minutes while leaving all the lees. Easy to use (you just have to pump it once or twice as long as your filling carboy is lower than the emptying one). I will say to be careful with the bend in the inner tube, I bought this because I broke my original one at the bend. It's not fragile I was just too rough with it.

Stop sucking on your hose!

Good device to replace one I had before it that broke after nearly 10 years of occasional use. Much better than any other syphon start method I've tried.
