Low cost item for cartridge replacement
If you're replacing a Moen cartridge or just the round rubber seals, you should also replace the existing retainers that hold the cartridges in place. Even if you use the special tool to remove the original plastic retainer, there's a very good chance that you will damage the plastic retainer during removal. If you should ever need to remove a cartridge again, you will thank yourself if you have replaced the retainers with new ones since they will not have been damaged during an earlier removal. If the slots in the retainers have been rounded off during an earlier removal, it will be almost impossible to remove them a second time.

Needed to replace 1248 cartridge for MOEN T943
If your house was built around 2012 and you have a MOEN T943. there is a good chance you will need these if your moen 1248 cartridge is faulty. I needed 3 phone calls with MOEN customer service before we/they realized my setup used a discontinued 4792 valve rather than the current 4992 valve. There is nothing wrong with the product as received, the problem is with the design. The plastic is not strong enough to withstand the tool nor is there enough material for the tool to mate with.

Did not fit my faucet set
Even tho it met the specs, it did not fit. Returned item, as I could not use it. I assume I have an older version of the faucet, altho that is not evident from Moen.

The one star review has no idea what he is talking about. This is a replacement part that holds down a Moen cartridge for bathroom faucets. Since plumbing uses copper there will be no rust because copper doesn't rust. And you use a plastic retainer nut like this one because like copper, plastic doesn't rust either. If you have dirt in your internal plumbing then there is a much more serious problem. This product is exactly what it's suppose to be.

Damage so easily
They damage so easily. Not a problem if you install once and forget. If you have a leak problem, and need multiple cycles installing removing, these suck. And when they get stripped, they are so difficult to remove.
