GFCI + USB, can't beat that

A GFCI outlet was needed for my kitchen island install, but I really wanted to use a USB outlet. Trips to local box stores did not provide this option so I succumbed to a standard GFCI outlet and bulky charging bricks. Lo and behold, a GFCI USB combo receptacle exists. Leviton is THE brand for receptacles and switches (I have several Diva dimmer switches which have top notch fit and finish), so I'm not surprised they have this dual purpose product. Plugging in devices is easy and doesn't get jammed like some other plugs, the green LED status is bright but small, and the spacing of the USB ports and plugs is fine; I can plug in 2 plugs and have plenty of room for the USB wires. One thing to note is that the hookup Line and Load wires are a part of the unit, you don't hook your Romex up to the device directly. The wire is good quality stranded 12 gauge, though I'd prefer a direct hookup to the receptacle with a screw. The charge rate is good for my iDevices, but it is not as fast as the fastest dedicated power brick. Preliminary tests using USB A and USB C on the outlet, vs my fastest USB A and USB C bricks, show that it's close enough. The convenience alone is wonderful and sure beats having a non-USB GFCI to code then adding charging ports in (which I was hitting with my knees). Leviton = the smart choice.

Love it

It’s a long outlet (about 3-4 inches front to back) but I purchased a separate extension bracket to fit over it so i didn’t have to mess around with the casing already installed behind the wall. Definitely worth the efforts as it saves up cable charging outlets on my kitchen counter. don’t forget you NEED gfci’s near a water source so this was a good addition

Easily replaced a GFCI outlet without USB connectors

I wanted a USB power jack in the bathroom for one of our devices which would replace a GFCI outlet without the USB jack. Easy to swap out. It does require a bigger box but since I was replacing a GFCI outlet that wasn't an issue in this case. It does have the same issue I see in most USB outlets in that the spacing is tight between the USB outlets and the three-prong outlets.

Too large for pop up floor box. Leviton GUAC2-W 20A GFCI and USB charger (24w)

This review is about the first product below. Can’t use in pop up floor boxes. I wanted a convenient source of power under the sofa we’d use. The pop up box kit that comes with the tamper resistant GFCI outlet (product 2 below) was super easy to install. I realized a built-in USB charging port would reduce clutter. I bought the Leviton GFCI with 24watt charger (product1). Good idea but won’t work. After installing it I realized, the cover won’t close! It’s entirely too bulky (deep). The point. If you plan on using in floor boxes, consider 2-gang floor boxes. If you plan on using as a wall outlet, consider deeper switch boxes with greater volume. You’ll need the space for the product and the 12-awg wires and wire nuts. Products: 1. Slow charger

Wanted an area where you could charge devices. Seems more devices come with us then regular plug. No fast charge.
