Unconventional use ... The only rafter hanger hook that works with horizontal 2x4s

I have a unique issue of garage wall shelving where the rafter boards are laid flat with 2x4s (1.5"x3.5"), see Dino shelf products (discontinued) and other similar anchored wall shelves. I've looked everywhere for a right size hanger hook, from big box stores to Etsy tradecrafts but doesn't seem to exist. I don't like the idea of screwing in big nail hooks on the underside of the rafter boards since it becomes permanent. This is the only rafter hook that fits ... If you use it in reverse. The reverse side measures 3.5" exactly and snugly fits over the 2x4s, while the other end can be used as a hanger hook too.

Like these hooks with a flat "U" shape as it will hold wider items to hang. Works well with my costco wire shelves and were half the price of the hooks the other manufacturer wanted. I got four hooks for less than what it would have cost for two of the original manufacturer--and they are more versatile!

Does the trick

Definitely does the trick but you may be able to find a cheaper product that is more versatile. It appears sturdy to hold up my kids’ bikes. I’m more worried about the whole rack holding up.

Does this look new, Amazon?

Updated: I contacted Amazon customer service and they helped me to resolve this. No explanation as to why I was sent a used item. As for the hooks themselves, they are fine but frankly overpriced for what they do and a little less sturdy than I expected under the weight of a bike. Without being heavier duty or having durable rubberization, these seem like they should be quite a bit cheaper. ------ Original review: I’m sure these hooks are fine. They’ll work with the garage rack. Minus 3 stars for Amazon sending me a clearly repackaged, used return. I’m not excited to clean duct tape residue off the hooks. Will see what Amazon customer support says and update as appropriate.

Sturdy hooks, perfect fit with HyLoft storage

I am using these hooks with HyLoft ceiling storage. The fit is perfect. I was wondering if they would make it harder to move boxes that are sitting on the grating but they do not. They are the same height as the rest of the grating. The part of the hook that attaches to the Hyloft system is 3.5" long (from outside to outside) The wire thickness is 0.25", so the inside spacing of the hook is 3" Each hook hang down 5.75" The flat part of the hook (where you hang things) is 3.25" The end that points up is 1.25" Amazon price on these hooks fluctuates. There is a nice online tool that I use to help catch a good price on Amazon, this tool is called "Online Price Alert". This tool will send you an email when the Amazon item price reaches the target price range that you specify. If you search on "online price alert" in Google it will be come up at the top my favorite has the word "camel" repeated three times in the name. The hooks are sturdy, I am very pleased. I had a hanging garage system installed in my home from a professional installer and wanted to add some hanging hooks. As a calculated guess I tried these and sure enough they work. My grid pattern is 3”x4” so they only fit one way, but still, they do work in the 3” grid sizes. They are a little loose once installed which seems unusual but hey, they work and I can hang thing now. On problem with these is that at least with my grid, the 3” gap has the wires on the top so I can only install these between boxes and such that are in place on the storage unit. Look at your system from the bottom, measure the spacing to determine which areas have 3” gaps, and then see if those gaps have the bars at the top of bottom and the direction they can go. If these stick up and interfere with the boxers stored on the unit, they are more difficult to use. It limits how and where you can use them but they are still useful. 4 stars, not because they don’t work but because they don’t fit exactly and you can only use them in places between boxes.
