It’ not made of plastic!
This is a good quality part, made of brass, with good fit and finish. Home Depot sells mostly plastic fittings in a kit form. To use a plastic fittings on a bathtub, then set that tub permanently in a bathroom, and hope that plastic fittings doesn’t leak is foolish.

Not as long as I needed
The Eastman 35224 Bath Waste and Overflow Shoe, 4-1/2 inch comes with a chrome strainer body and a rubber gasket. The Eastman 35237 has a 4 inch pipe and does not have the strainer body or gasket. So what’s the difference – these have different waste shoes and the 35224 model is actually smaller so the actual length of both is nearly identical. Don't be fooled thinking one has a longer overall length. Also, the strainer body for the 35224 is quite a bit narrower so it will not fit with the 35237. I needed a longer tube but neither would work for me. I ended up removing the pipe from the 35237 and buying and trimming a longer pipe. Sucks you cannot just buy the shoe – anyplace.

Good quality product but.....
This is a good quality product but buy the Eastman 35237 instead which gives you just the bottom part only (brass part). The top chrome part is pretty much worthless as nothing at any local builder supply store connects to it. From pop up stoppers to strainer cups to catch hair to strainer plates as the threaded hole measures a large 5/16”. I ended up buying a strainer plate and I had to drill the existing hole bigger to 5/16” and then I had to buy a stainless steel hex head bolt to screw it into the chrome cup which looks unprofessional but I couldn’t find a 5/16” bolt with a nice rounded head. Like I said, buy the Eastman 35237 shoe instead and then you can buy any strainer cup (the part you see in the tub) on the market that fits you’re needs.

Need pipe dope or Teflon tape else it will leak
IMPORTANT: it is not leak-proof as it comes from the factory. The brass pipe screws into the brass shoe - it's a fine thread and it was on so tight that it seemed like a sweat / brazed fitting. Don't be fooled, you must separate the two parts - you may have to heat the shoe to loosen the pipe. Put pipe dope on the threads, then snug it tight with two slip-joint pliers to make it leak-proof. Pipe dope is preferred here because sometimes Teflon tape don't seal well on fine threads, and you cannot visually see in there if you got good coverage. In case you weren't sure, the gasket goes between the tub and the shoe, use plumbers putty between the strainer and the tub (this is the primary seal), and use a little Teflon tape on the strainer threads to make it easier to get it out again years from now.

An absolute necessity when replacing a new bath tub...
Solid brass waste and overflow shoe. I needed this to replace an existing bath tub remodel. The item was quickly purchased and delivered on the same day it was needed. This is excellent quality item that was very difficult to purchase at the standard big box HD or Lowes. The only thing I wish it had was a specific slip nut that was need to fasten it to the existing faucet, which was not included. I'm glad to have Amazon to search and discover this item, when it was needed in a pinch!

Don't "screw" around. Get the brass and do it right!
This all metal (brass) unit saved my tub replacement project. The big box stores all push the plastics now and I used the plastic as they claimed it was what's done now. After much work to get the tub unit in place the plastic drain cross threaded! Why wouldn't it, its plastic and as anyone knows who has installed a tub on slab these things seldom line up perfectly thus REAL metal to metal is needed for final tightening/install. Don't play around with the plastic junk. Order this asap if you have a tub/shower unit to install and save yourself the troubles and time I created for myself by not doing so initially. Big box charges much more for these if they even stock. Mine did not.

Just wouldn't fit
The Shoe just wouldn't align to the tub and the rest of the bathtub drain. Apparently the tube was too long and wouldn't allow the pipes to fit together such that leaks would be stopped. The brass tube was so flimsy that it would get out of shape quickly. After a week of leaking, I removed the brass drain apparatus from the tub and replaced it with a new pvc drain kit. Next time, I will do that first and save a whole lot of trouble.
