Excellet strong, yet lightweight carrier

Curt gets it right. Simple design, simple (but tedious) assembly, great lightweight, and plenty strong to hold all your stuff. I prefer the low perimeter railing over other carriers so that my gear doesn't have to necessarily fit inside the footprint exactly. As with any of these carriers, I highly recommend the CURT Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin. I've used it for years and it works fantastic. It locks it in and doesn't allow the tray to move around. Well worth it over the provided bolt. Use double stick tape to keep the receiving nut plate in place inside the square stock during installation. Flatten out the little tab if needed. Remove after use. The only thing I don't about a lot of trays like this is the number and placement of the tie down holes along the railing. Easy fix though. A drill. I use rope ratchets as tie downs. They're a little tedious but tighten down great and are very versatile compared to bungy webbing, which I find worthless.

Fantastic way to gain more space.

Bought a hitch for the Honda element and this will attach to the back. It arrived well packaged and secure. Nothing was missing and no damage. Assembly was easy and straightforward. Might help to have an extra hand as it may be heavy for some and kinda awkward. I had all the tools except for I had to borrow an adjustable wrench for the large bolt on the neck. It was bigger than anything I had on hand. I knocked it down one star for sturdiness because one of the spot welds that holds down the grated floor broke loose while I was moving it. Should be fine as long as the others hold. Powder coating seems pretty durable and overall its a strong and well designed product. And for anyone just buying a hitch and accessories, you will need a hitch pin/lock to secure the connection. I didn't know that I would need this and had to make a separate order after. Other than that, Im happy!

Perfect to haul stuff for a week's trip, very stable.

This worked exactly as I expected. However, note that I had to get a trailer hitch pin+clip and a anti rattle stabilizer for the excellent experience I had with this product. I hauled a cooler and two boxes symmetrically placed on the tray. I covered these with a tarp and held it down with a ratchet strap (3). The ride was mostly freeway and very few rough gravel roads (total distance of about 400 miles traveled. I had no issues at all - I didn't even notice that I had the cargo tray on. I track my gas mileage all the time and the degradation with the tray and load was not noticeable. The only gripe I have is - My SUV's trunk doesn't open with the tray folded up.. so I have to keep the tray off when I'm not using it. If the trunk would open, I would leave the tray on all the time.

Great carrier!

It’s a great carrier, but the cargo net with the big hooks are for the tube style carriers only. I ended up using multiple bungee cords instead, and it worked just fine. I’d prefer to just just one big cover rather than having to undo so many bungees. But it is a deterrent for sure, because it would be a hassle to undo all this straps, lol. But the carrier is great, another quality Curt product.

Very Happy

I just put this carrier together so we haven't used it on a road trip yet. That said, it seems very solid and durable. It's powder-coated so it should last for a long time. Putting it together was a little challenging. A flat surface and an extra person would help but I managed on my own. Tip: as the instructions state, only tighten the bolts about 80% until you have all the parts put together. Once together, then go back and tighten all bolts completely. If you tighten as you go, things can get misaligned. I chose not to use the piece to fold the carrier up. With it, it makes the carrier protrude out from the bumper a lot more and I wanted it tighter to the bumper. Plus, without the fold-up piece, the carrier goes into the hitch farther which makes it seem even more sturdy (less leverage). This carrier does not come with any reflectors, unfortunately, so I ordered some separately. I would recommend for added safety. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this carrier and would recommend it.

Je l'utilise pour faire monter mes chiens a l'arriere et pour les sac de terre, gravel, etc ... pour eviter de salir l'interieur de la voiture. facile a monter avec les instructions, solide et tres facile a manipuler pour installer sur le hitch.
