Physically - good. Electrically - just okay.
About a month ago I was offered a free APC P8U2 Surge Arrest for review and I accepted. I have been a computer geek for about 30 years. Many lessons were learned as far back as when I had my first Commodore 64 fail to when I used to sell and service the original IBM PC and Apple Macintosh computers - back when they were thousands of dollars. Computers are collections of delicate electronics and bad things can happen if the power supplied to them is not good and consistent. At bare minimum, everyone needs a good surge protector. Not a power strip. A surge protector. Preferably one with EMI/RFI filtering, a low response time, low clamping values and a high joules rating. I cannot tell you how many PCs I've seen over the years damaged or completely fried because people either didn't know about or just didn't buy a good surge protector. And there is a misconception that it is only good for dealing with extreme events like a lightning strike. That's simply not true. Every time your refrigerator cycles on or your air conditioner or a vacuum cleaner or a hair dryer, etc. - any high draw appliance - they draw a large current. This first causes a drop and then a spike on your home electrical circuits. If, for example, your computer or TV is on and unprotected, it will take a hit every time that happens. Eventually, those small hits can do damage. Your computer may start crashing seemingly out of nowhere and become unstable. Many people blame that on the computer and not their lack of simple electrical protection. Of course, many things can cause computer crashes, but having a good surge protector eliminates or greatly reduces at least one potential cause. If you live in an apartment building, your situation is compounded by the fact that you may be at the mercy of many high-draw electrical appliances that are completely out of your control. Physically, the APC P8U2 has an excellent design that incorporates many improvements over traditional surge protector strips. Like a rotating power plug, so you can more easily manage the cord. Four widely spaced outlets to accommodate direct plug in of power transformers. Sliding covers to keep dust and debris out of unused outlets. A recessed power switch that is more difficult to accidentially trip. And the P8U2 also includes two protected 5V USB power outlets with 2.5 Amps combined to directly charge your phone, tablet or any other USB powered device. The P8U2 also has a built in wiring fault indicator, which will test the electrical outlet you plug it into for proper wiring polarity and ground. But like a car, the physical looks and accommodations are not as important as what's inside... Electrically, I consider the APC P8U2 Surge Arrest to be just an okay surge protector. It has a surge response time of less than 1 nanosecond, which is good. It has a surge energy rating of 2630 Joules, which is good. But for clamping voltage, it has a line to neutral (L-N) rating of 400V, line to ground (L-G) rating of 500V and neutral to ground (N-G) rating of 500V. Those values are too high. Better surge protectors have lower L-N, L-G and N-G voltage ratings. The L-N 400V rating alone means that the surge protector won't kick in until a surge of 280VAC. You want your surge protector to kick in at a much lower voltage than 280VAC, which is over twice the nominal 120VAC. Ideally, look for surge protectors with an L-N rating of 300V or lower. Even though the clamping voltage values are key, they are not always listed in the specifications online. I looked at many models on the APC website and could not find any with clamping voltage values listed. They are, however, generally listed on the back of the physical surge protector - not much help if you're shopping online. For people looking for better protection than just a surge protector, I recommend a good uninterruptible power supply (UPS). I have had APC UPS units in the past but at this time I have twoCyberPower 1500VA 900W CP1500PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS units. They work great, they offer excellent protection and they are reasonably priced (for a 900W 1500VA Sinewave UPS). I just replaced the batteries in one that I purchased back in 2011 and it still works great. Overall, I use a combination of UPS and surge protectors. I have multiple surge protectors plugged into the two UPS units for power distribution to my multiple computers (which are generally not active at the same time). If you're going to invest a lot of money into a computer, or big television, etc., you should also invest in a good surge protector to protect that investment and your data from everyday and extreme power fluctuations. It's just one layer of protection that everyone should have.

Definitely does what it’s supposed to do
I had one for several years and used it all that time without incident. The other day it was finally called upon to perform its true purpose and did so magnificently. It tanked a big one, with only the slightest of hiccups. All of my cherished expensive stuff plugged into it blinked for an instant, then kept right on going without interruption. Was glad to see them still for sale and wasted little time replacing it with another. They’re also just great power strips in general.

Works great
Like that I have more than enough plugs now on a mini surge protector. Two monitors, laptop, printer, modem, and electric standing desk all plugged in with more available. Would definitely recommend and will buy another if ever needed!

Easy, Efficient, Handles All of Your Electronics Easily - Didn't Receive Warranty/Coverage Card
Great surge protector....but there is no required "card to send back" to register the product and get the $250,000 in protecting for your electronics nor the lifetime warranty! I checked the packaged, instructions, and box over and over again and there is definitely NO CARD. The instructions tell you specifically that you MUST send the card back via snail-mail to activate your warranty as well as the coverage of your devices....but no card of any kind is included and the instructions/insert don't include an alternate option like registering online or even by phone. This is a major issue to me because that means that one of these things is an issue with this product: 1. the seller cannot offer the warranty, but is advertising that they are.... OR 2. The seller is unaware that the manufacturer hasn't included the necessary card... OR 3. The info on the insert is outdated and there IS somewhere else to register the product that isn't included in the packaging or insert/instructions Regardless of which is this case....this is a real problem that I hope I can get resolved. I'm setting the rating at 4 Stars because I don't know the answer to that particular issue yet and I'm staying positive since the product itself is excellent and working really well for us and all of our needs. The surge protector is heavy, durable, and high quality. We tend to gather on the sofa together instead of all being separately on our devices and computers, so we previously had a really old power cord that was actually cracked OPEN with exposed wiring (yes....very dangerous, I know) but we kept using it because we needed a cord at least 8' long to run from the nearest outlet, under our sofa, and back out to under our coffee table area where we basically have ALL of our personal electronics at all times. My significant other and I both do extra work online and at-home as well as regular use of our electronics. But between just the two of us (my son has his own desk and computer/media area) we have a ridiculous amount of things either charging or plugged in at once. We're using this surge-protector for (and this is just the "always plugged in stuff") * 1 15" Chromebook * 1 Samsung 7 Edge Cell Phone * 2 30Watt Electronic Cigarette Batteries * 1 Mac Laptop * 1 iPhone 6 * 1 Samsung S2 8" Tablet * 1 Samsung Tab 8" * 1 iPhone 4 (disconnected but used for gaming over wifi) * 1 Heating Pad set on "High" all of the time (bad back) * 1 HP G-Series Laptop * 1 USB Laptop/Fan Desk This is just what our normal "cord mess" is for the two of us and all of the things listed are either plugged in half of the day or all of the time. We needed something safe and with plenty of outlet space because even with the 11 outlets and 2 USB's....we use the extenders for additional USB charging (for extras and some things on the list). This surge protector is PERFECT if you're abusing your outlets and have an extreme media area like ours. It hasn't flickered to "yellow" yet and all of our devices are charging fast, keeping power well, and we've actually had a barrage of thunderstorms since purchasing and had no problems at all. I almost feel like we got it just in time because I thought "thank goodness I just threw that old cord out before this storm". This surge protector lays flat and the cord swivels to lay flat and stay stable/hidden more easily, as well. All of the outlets are well-space unlike my old one and even my boyfriend's boxy, ridiculous cord (to what I believe to be the oldest Apple Laptop that exists) to Samsung's notably large chargers and Apple's oddly-shaped chargers. The bigger outlets are awesome for computer power cords that are fat, wide, or generally annoying. Plugs are "tight" (meaning your plugs don't flop around) and keep a barrage of cords organized and easily unplug and move around without accidentally tangling and unplugging everything else. The 2 USB ports seem like a minimal amount to me considering the size and price of this unit compared to some other smaller (and admittedly lower quality) units. On a surge protector this large you'd normally get at least 3 USB ports, so that's a negative for us because even when we use the AC Adapters with USB "option" instead of just the USB....we still have to use an add-on USB block for the minimum of 3 USB-Only devices we charge in this area. So that's something that could be improved for sure. I'm not going to bother with the technical spec or details I gathered from the info online and/or the included packet of information because others here have already run down complete lists of those details and I can't see more than what's provided in the other reviews as necessary at this point. Most shoppers just want to know if it's durable, works well, and fulfills the needs of lots of electronics safely and efficiently. And the answer is YES. It's an excellent product thus far. The problem with the warranty card is a big one that I'm not considering *at this point* in this review because I have not gotten a chance to speak to the seller about the problem yet, so it may be a simple mix up or easily resolved. I will change the 4 stars either up or down once I've had that conversation and gotten the info on the $250,000 and warranty that I can't get at this point.

Works pretty well
I have this device connected to all my home theater equipment drawing a max (probably never that high) of 1650 watts. Have not had any issue with it but wished the clamping force was higher (would feel better >500w).

Excelnte Regulador

Does the job, but the cable may be too long
I purchased this to replace a pair of old, daisy-chained surge bars behind our TV. Overall, this is a good product with some nice, though basic features, but at a price that isn't really justified. The good: - The outer 6 ports are fantastic. They are far enough apart for even the most giant of power bricks (think SNES large) - The cord is on a swivel, allowing you some flexibility in terms of how you mount the unit. Not sure if this will prove to be a fail point if used too much, but it should hold up - Very satisfying on/off switch is unlikely to get hit by accident - Great fault protection that indicates where an electrical problem may be arising from The less good: - USB: The USB ports are pretty under-powered for 2020. Very few devices are all that happy at 2.4A these days. These ports will be good for powering small devices like a raspberry pi or a NES classic, but look elsewhere for charging your phone or tablet - Wall Cable: The cable is a bit on the long side if this is anywhere near the outlet. The cable is also very thick and strong, meaning it becomes a bit of a bear if you have it kicking around

Just Excellent! Well done APC!
This is one well thought out surge bar! I had a mishmash of wires going everywhere and even the dreaded daisy chain! Daisy chaining(plugging one power bar into another) is a big no-no as you can and will deal with multiple electrical problems as well as a potential fire! As you can see from my picture this bar allowed me to safely plug in multiple sizes of plugs as these days electronic plugs seem to come in every shape and form and the smart devices use some of the largest forms. This bar handled all of them with ease with not a single one crammed up against the other, which was a pretty awesome feat if you look at my included picture. The cord length was absolutely perfect for my needs, it stretched down the length of my wall right to where I needed it to be. This is not a flimsy unit and speaks of quality with a hefty weight and excellent build quality! The cord itself is of even better quality than you find on the higher capacity A/C or heater cords. Bottom line is this bar was designed by an actual engineer or electronics enthusiast who really put the time and thought into what a surge bar should be! I'll be getting a couple more in the near future!

You can get better for less
For the price I expect better. It's definitely looks and feels sturdy at first, so much so that I actually bought a 2nd one right away, but after 2 months of use it's starting to fall apart. Plugs don't fit snugly anymore, outlet covers stick or fall off easily, and the USB charging outlets are definitely not fast charging. I have a cheaper power bar that will provide 2.4mA if one USB port is in use or 1.2mA to two devices if both ports are in use, but this power strip will only provide 1.2mA per port even if nothing else is plugged in. And after 2 months neither USB ports can even do that, they no longer provide more than 0.1mA at 5V regardless of device or cable. Can't even slow charge a pair of earbuds. And my cheaper power bar can be fully controlled remotely with an app so I don't have to worry about forgetting to turn the lights off. If you take a closer look at the thing you can see they worked hard to provide an illusion of sturdiness but not much else. The cord is much thicker than the cord on any other power bar with this output and is poorly designed. It's always in the way. The power bar itself is also twice as thick as it needs to be, the bottom half of this power bar is just an empty box, nothing but air, to give the appearance that there's much more going on internally than there actually is while just taking up more space and getting in the way. For less money you can get wifi controlled outlets, a more compact shape and more convenient design, and fast charging USB ports that actually fast charge. There's nothing about this device that justifies it's price

Buen multi contactos.
