I close my bedroom door and open my bedroom window at night because I like the fresh air, and I like my bedroom cold. Not freezing cold, but cold enough to want to get cozy under a blanket. I don't wear jammies, and all of the blankets that I've tried in recent years are too heavy, and still don't take care of the "cool spots" under the cover. I know the best alternative would be a nice, lightweight, expensive Down blanket, that's what I used for most of my life in the winter, but I just didn't want to deal with the expense as well as the hassle of also using a duvet at this time in my life. I'm old, changing bedding is a challenge these days. And then I remembered my mother, of many decades ago. As she got old, she bought an electric blanket and she loved it. She kept her bedroom cold to save on heating expense, and she always said how nice and toasty the electric blanket kept her. I never had an electric blanket, but I also used to sleep in jammies around 150 pounds ago, so I figured I'd give it a shot. But finding the "right one" was a challenge. I didn't want anything heavy, and I actually didn't want one of these fuzzy warm microfiber or polyester blankets either, they are warm but they don't breath like cotton. I know cotton isn't that warm but I thought it would be just fine given the heating elements. Well, the blanket didn't work out, and here's why: 1- It's heavier then I would prefer. 2- There is absolutely no need for 20 heat settings. I keep my window open a few inches, it's about 2 feet from the bed, and I have never had the setting above 2 even when it's below freezing outside, and plenty cold in the bedroom. 3- The plastic window through which you see the led which displays the heat level, seems to be opaque, and it is incredibly difficult or almost impossible to see the setting. That alone would have been enough to make me send it back after I tried it a few times, but I didn't want to go through the hassle. But here's the reason why I am writing this review today: When I plugged the power cord into the socket on the blanket, I knew there would be trouble ahead sooner or later. It was wayyyyyyy too hard to plug together. I checked to make sure everything was aligned properly, it was and with a great deal of effort the chord finally snapped into place. That was about mid-October, 2021, and I knew I was going to have a problem taking it apart should I ever have to. Well I decided that it was time to wash the blanket, and when I tried to separate the power cord from the socket on the blanket, I found it impossible to do. I checked the (poor) instructions, and all it said to do was to "push down on the button" which implied that it would be then possible to pull the connector apart. Not possible!! And I would challenge anyone to accomplish that task. Even with the help of a screwdriver to push the "button" down, nothing budged until I finally pried the connection apart...which of course, broke the useless button and the connector. So what do I have now? Well, the chord does plug into the socket in the blanket, but it won't "stay" there since the locking connector is broken. What to do??....best I can think of is to duct tape the socket together. Kind of a Mickey Mouse way to deal with one of the most expensive electric blankets I saw, and a total waste of 100 bucks. I used to buy Woolrich decades ago, sizing for some clothing items used to be an issue, but at least they produced a quality product. That's not the case with this blanket, it's a big disappointment. However I am well within the 5 year warranty period, so maybe I'll give that a try as long as it isn't too much hassle.
