Rosie loves the grunts

This is my dogs favorite toy. She will spend hours squeaking it. She shows it off to everyone who stops by. She usually kills most of the squeakers in about 2 weeks, starts pulling stuffing out after 3-4 months. Then we are allowed to play with it. She like to play tug with it. They stick around for about 6 months when suddenly a new hedgie arrives. Rosie is 165 pound Great Pyrenees mix. We accidentally got her the small one. She still loves that one. It's baby hedgie. She will not let us play with that one. The prices for these fluctuate from $10-30 so I stockpile when they are $10. I keep some on hand incase it gets shredded too soon. The quality has stayed consistent. The only con is the grunting feature. Rosie loves it but too much. That is the first part to be destroyed. Once she rips Hedgie open to get the grunter it is a plastic bag over stuffing with a plastic neck. I worry about her eating that part. But we have not had an issue with that happening and we've been giving her these for about 6 years now.

Beware of the hair... Easily ripped out.

Ok, so my dog is an aggressive chewer and he of course decided to remove the squeaker... Well in his surgical precision he first cleaned the area of all fur, and then removed the cotton obstruction. When he was finished with the preparation, he then carefully removed both noise makers. Apparently his diagnosis was that the squeakers needed to be chewed on. ???????? The mess left behind was what you would expect, and so as his assistant I cleaned up the area. What I did not expect was to mistake some of the hair for a creepy crawler. I freaked out a little bit, but was able to maintain my composure enough to realize it was not infact a creepy crawler but instead a tuft of hair from the patient. It lasted about as long as any other dog toy I give my dog.

Dog loves it…while it lasts

Our 1 year old Corgi absolutely loves this toy, and is currently on his fourth one. As soon as we take it out of the Amazon box, he gets excited and will run around playing with it for days. However, that’s where the 4 stars comes in, as these don’t necessarily last a long time. We usually end up having to pay close attention for him getting the squeakers out within a week (at most), and once those are out, it not long before the toy meets it’s final demise via stuffing removable. So great while they last, but would love for it to be a little more durable.

My dog loves this, but its definitely not a chew toy

The large size hedgehog is around the size of a football, so pretty big for a dog toy. The 'squeaker' makes a unique sound, that sounds more like a bird call rather than the typical high pitched squeaker you find in dog toys. My dog loves the sound, but to me it kinda sounds like a dog coughing/choking, so its always a bit concerning to hear the sound when youre not with your dog as you think something is wrong. Durability wise, its a well made plush toy, but its not a chewing toy. If your dog aggressively chews their toys this will not last. If you dog likes to fetch, carry, and moderately chew then this is great.

Great Surrogate Sibling for Puppies

I purchased this in advance of the time I actually planned to put it in with the puppies as a toy, but when one of the 3 passed away unexpectedly I decided to use it differently. I washed the toy and rubbed it with the mother's scent and placed it under the heat lamp in the whelping box. The 2 puppies flocked to it, and I found it holds heat well and is just fuzzy enough to be cuddly for new puppies. They are pictured at 2 weeks old with their buddy, they're 3 weeks old now and still the hedgehog is a favorite to cuddle. Not really it's intended use, but it worked well for us.

Dog Approved

One of the deal pages I follow on Instagram posted these when they were heavily discounted. Regular squeaky toys are pretty annoying, but the grunting ones are funny enough to balance out how annoying they can be. Lol These are my dogs absolute favorite, so I bought extra to have backups for when they meet their end.

My large dog loved it

This is the third hedgehog we have bought for our dog and he loves them but was able to rip it apart get all the stuffing and the squeaker out in less than a day. If your dog is a destroyer this probably isn't the best option unless you like picking up stuffing all day.

My dog thinks he's Tarzan with this toy

I bought the Outward Hound Kyjen Hedgehogz Squeak Toy for my furry friend and he absolutely loves it! It's the perfect size for him to carry around in his mouth and he loves to throw it up in the air and catch it. It's like he thinks he's Tarzan swinging from vine to vine. The squeaker is a great touch and keeps him entertained for hours on end. And when he's done playing with it, it looks adorable sitting on his bed. The only downside is that it's not indestructible, so if your dog is an aggressive chewer like mine, it might not last as long as you hope. But for the price, it's definitely worth it to see your pup so happy and playful. Overall, I highly recommend the Outward Hound Kyjen Hedgehogz Squeak Toy for any dog owner looking for a fun and entertaining toy for their furry friend.

Buddy’s favourite toy

This is Buddy’s absolute favourite toy. In large, it’s the perfect size for him to get in his mouth and shake it. And shake it. And shake it. We have gone through a few in about eighteen months, but one of Buddy’s joys is when Honky (as he is known in our house) is near the end of his life, and his seams are starting to come undone. Buddy gets his long snoot into Honky’s innards and pulls out the stuffing, leaving it all over the house and garden. Buddy’s daddy and I re-stuff Honky, and Buddy starts all over again. And when the squeakers start to come out with the stuffing, we retire Honky and bring out another. That might not sound like a great advert but this toy really takes a battering when Buddy has seen a cat/squirrel/rabbit/mouse/fast moving plastic bag on his walk, and it’s the first thing he goes to when he gets home. Honky really gets it then. I’ve seen so many greyhounds with this toy that I used to think that it was standard issue with a long dog. As well as being soft and plush, Honky has a rattle, a squeaker and a honkmaker. We always have one in reserve.

My dog loves it

I gave the toy to my dog on Christmas Day and she immediately fell in love with it. She carries it everywhere making it grunt and squeak. She is a gentle soft mouthed golden retriever so it is lasting well. She does occasionally get stuck in when it is not responding properly ie not squeaking when pressed and I have detected no damage to it. It's not flimsy and is quite substantial. It's well filled and seems to me like a good quality product. It is also a good size. It has been left out in the rain in error and dried well on the radiator. The squeak and grunt remained intact. I'm glad I purchased it for her because she loves it so much, but I would have had second thoughts if I had read the other review. I have had toys in the past that haven't lasted five minutes but this is going strong. I would certainly try more toys from the same manufacturer.

Popular, but delicate!

A toy that was much loved by my Jack Russell for the half hour he enjoyed it before it's legs came off and he chewed through the seams to liberate the stuffing. Despite the brief joy, I'd probably avoid it if you've got a dog that plays robustly!

Have bought three of these over the past 6 years ...

Have bought three of these over the past 6 years. My dog loves this particular toy and regularly plays with it, hence the need for 3 as he tends to wear them out and tear them, but he is a tremendous chewer and tugger. You have to watch that when they split it needs taking off your dog (have tried to repair them on occasions by sewing them up) as the stuffing comes out, or (god forbid) the squeaky inners could choke.

Very disappointed

This is the third hedgehog we’ve bought for our Labrador in almost 5 years. The other two have been perfect and lasted a couple of years each as our dog is very gentle with her toys. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for this one. I only gave it to her last week and had to take it off her yesterday as the stitching has all come out from the underside revealing all the stuffing which would be dangerous for her to swallow. I’m extremely disappointed by this purchase as the toys are expensive and am put off from buying anymore. It may be a one off fault so I would be happy to write a good review if I can get a free replacement to try and find it up to the previous standard.
