Am I the only one who longs for the old days? When mattresses were all one size? And you bought a set of sheets, and they actually fit the bed? Now it's deep pockets... and extra deep pockets... and kinda deep pockets... and, well you get the idea. All of which leads me to the biggest negative I have about this sheet set. The fitted sheet is way too big for my mattress. I have a relatively thick mattress, but when I put the fitted sheet on the bed, there was still a lot of material gathered in the middle of the bed. I ended up having to tuck the sheet in, like you would a flat sheet. It works, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having a fitted sheet. (It's possible these will shrink a bit after repeated washings, however at this point I have only washed them once.) The good news, on the other hand, is the flat sheet is also big. I like that. I have purchased too many sheet sheet sets where the flat sheet could barely be tucked in. You needed a tape measure to make sure there was sufficient material on either side of the bed to be tucked in, and even then it left you with barely an inch on each side. That's not the case with this sheet. There is plenty of material on both sides for it to be properly tucked in. I didn't actually count the threads :) , but I'm guessing it has the reported 800 threads per inch. The material is thick. It reminds me a lot of a hotel sheet set (especially because I bought these in white). Considering how many times hotel sheets must be washed, I imagine these will hold up quite well. These also do not have a sateen finish, which also helps the comparison to hotel sheets. It's possible that after repeated washings these might start to get a bit scratchy. However, that's just a guess, they are fine at this time (one washing). Also, the thickness of these sheets might make them a little warm for the summer. Right now it is fall here, and they are fine. And, moreover, frequently I sleep on top of the sheets in the summer, so it probably won't be a big deal to me. This set was not advertised as wrinkle-free, and, in fact, I can assure you they are not. I've seen worse, but they do come out of the dryer somewhat wrinkled. If you are fussy about this, crank up your iron, or look elsewhere. Bottom line I still gave these 4 stars. Not that they are the greatest sheets in the world, but more that the competition isn't that great either. It just seems finding good sheets is a real task these days. However, these are decent and probably worth the money.
