Works well except for whistling sound
Overall, this works well. It’s easy to clean. When used indoors, this keeps tea hot for maybe an hour and warm for a maybe 4 hours. I have another size of this carafe from the same company so that’s about what I expected. The only reason this gets two stars is the absolutely obnoxious high-pitched whistling noise the lid makes as the tea cools. It annoys me and drives my cat wild as she thinks there is something for her investigate. I cannot figure out exactly why it is doing this as it doesn’t matter is the lid is open or even on. I assume steam is venting from somewhere but it continues to happen the lid is off. It goes on and on until I move it out of earshot. I’ve ended up keeping the carafe in another room while I’m working or not putting the lid on, which defeats the purpose of having a carafe for hot tea at my desk. The other carafe that I have does not do this—I’ve had insulted mugs that do this but usually once you vent them briefly, it stops. This will go on for at least a half hour.

Didn't keep my tea hot.
I really wanted to like this, but it didn't work. My tea wasn't hot after only an hour. Useless for me.

Just what I was looking for
I'm a loose-leaf tea lover, and a slow tea drinker. I work from home and had been making a mug of tea in a double-walled stainless steel mug with a Finum infuser basket. While this system works really well, the mug only kept my tea hot for maybe 45 minutes, and warm-ish for maybe 90 minutes. As I said, I'm not a fast tea drinker so I was looking for a better way to keep my tea hotter for longer. My Contigo travel bottle keeps it really hot, but I like drinking out of a cup/mug where I can smell my tea while I drink it. The Timolino tea maker is now my go-to system. It keeps my tea hot for much longer than my stainless steel mug, and I can pour hot tea a bit at a time into either a regular teacup or into my stainless mug, and enjoy hot tea for a few hours. If you keep the carafe full, then of course it stays hot longer than it does once it's only half- or a quarter-full. Quality is excellent, and it looks pretty cool too!

A dual purpose mug/kettle.
I'm an avid tea drinker, yet not a tea-gourmand. Means I drink tea (usually Earl Grey) with sugar and lemon, but a lot. The average size I consume for breakfast is 0.5 litre. I have planned an "upgrade" when purchased this kettle-mug, as this is 0.6 litre. It serves as giant mug just perfectly, even an older Sigg mug-cap fits on top of it nicely. Compared to other super size (17+oz) mugs or tumblers like the Contigo 20 Autoseal, it seems large, but a way easier to clean and use due to the wider opening. And this baby has a way more potential than a simple mug. With the built in (but removeable) filter, it is perfect for non-bagged teas, and the filter is also a joy to clean. One thing to remember, due to the vacuum insulation, the heat retention is superb. If you want to drink from it directly, you have to set the proper temperature inside the kettle, like leave some room for a few icecubes. It makes the tea instantly drinkable, yet still acceptably hot. Needs some experimenting though. The other use is to keep the tea as hot as possible. But this process needs a separate, smaller mug to drink from, like a Jefferson cup. Just pour a few sips, let it cool a bit, and you are done. I use this method with fruit tea, enhanced with lots of honey, just to keep my throat happy. This way you can drink smaller amounts for a longer period of time. Either way, its a great, usable product. One more thing. As with all stainless steel tea serving mugs, it needs time to reflect the taste of the tea properly. I have several mugs, but all of them needed a few month to reach my comfort zone "taste-wise".

Great size, wonderful product - a perfect 10
Why I bought it for work: I don't like using teabags twice - the second cup is always weak - but steeping one bag in a mug for 5 minutes makes the first cup too strong. I'd like to make 2-3 cups worth at once. Also, by the time I get to the bottom of my mug, the tea is cold. I'd rather pour a half-cup at a time, so it's hot. Finally, I'd not seen any insulated teapots before that reasonably sized. At first glance: This insulated teapot ("travette"?) looks beautiful, delicately brushed chrome with black accents. She's easy to open and use. Very classy, not cheap-looking at all. I love the look of the metal strainer, and it will easily handle loose leaves, though the mesh is quite fine and I wonder how long before it gets clogged with fine particles. She has an easily grippable handle, drip-free pouring, and a rubber base pad for stability. After using: Timolino has perfect proportions, and an ideal volume. Drop in the bag, add near boiling water, brew for 5 minutes, lift out the strainer with the cute little wire handle, and the tea stays perfectly hot for a looong time. Just right for pouring out your delicious libations a half-mug at a time. I think I'm in love. I will have to edit this review in a few months (we met only this morning). But I think this is the start of a very long-term relationship. Edit: November 2013 My Timolino is still working great. The mesh has never gotten clogged except when I forget to clean out loose leaves. One cycle of hot water and a quick rinse is all that's needed to solve that. I love this item, and have absolutely no regrets buying it. Seriously. Get one.

Really like this pot & use it every day for coffee ...
Really like this pot & use it every day for coffee brewing. My pour over coffee brews straight into the pot & keeps it at drinking temperature for a couple hours. It keeps things as hot as my Zojirushi but it's more than adequate for morning coffee. My choice to use it in place of my Zojirushi is because the Timolino is much, much easier to clean. While great for my coffee, it is not the best for brewing tea. The basket that came with it is of dubious quality and not well designed. This pot is too tall & the basket too short. Similar problem exists with coffee, but since I do pour over that isn't a problem for me. I tossed the brew basket. There is a different Timolino product, the 20 oz Travette with a much better shape and basket design that would well and is my go to for brewing tea.
