The Jury is out on the quality of Stainless Steel

The units look reasonably well made to actually fasten a machine screw within wood. The finish on the metal was very much of a zinc color, I checked several of the units on a magnet and they stuck to the magnet. That tells me that the amount of 'stainless steel' within these is low. My use for these is exterior in nature; my sense is that they won't last outside as long as they should. If you really need a very long life, get 304 or 316 stainless.

Split work piece

I bought these because my local hardware store only carried the tapered variety with weak metal. While the material is good I found that these split my work piece rather than cutting.
