I replaced a leaky ice make valve box with this value box. I transitioned cooper to pex in just a few minutes. Easiest plumbing repair job ever!

Fitting can only be removed from the plastic enclosure by sacrificing the plastic enclosure box
I needed s quick ice maker 1/8” tap that would fit 1/2” ZurnPex in a location where there was no room to crimp Pex collars and assumed this all in one would allow for easy removal from the recessed mounting box as my application was surface mount. Not so. The styrene recessed box needed to be cut with a saws to remove the fitting as the Shark Bite collar was too big to pass through the hole in the box. Once that was accomplished, everything went together as planned.

So much more convenient than cementing
I have been a fan of Sharkbite products for a while now and this one does not disappoint. I was using this in "old work" so installation was tricky but I like a good challenge. I had to cut out the drywall in a fashion that allowed me to [somehow] get the thing in there, attach the pipes, and get it affixed to the studs. I did this over 7 months ago so I don't remember the details but up to this day, everything has worked flawlessly. Sure, there's a small (<1/4") roundish cutout visible underneath the cover but I can live with that.

Can be used as an old work box with some modifications. Looks nice and clean.
If you clip the mounting ears off and drill two holes you can make this basically an old work box. The trim ring covers the screws also so it has a clean look. I plumbed 1/4" PEX from a water filter to this box and had to step it up to 1/2" PEX. The fittings are very easy to use and very secure. While brass is a no no for RO water so far I have not had any apparent leaching in the water.

May cause cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm?
After my contractor installed the device I noticed the product box had a California Proposition 65 warning on it: "Warning: This product contains chemicals known in the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm". It is beyond me why Sharkbite would make a product that contains these chemicals, especially since this product is specific to delivering potable water! Also, I noticed that when using my water dispenser on the refrigerator the water seems to always hiccup at least once (small gaps in water delivery flow). I already flushed 16 cups through the system, so I doubt this is just residual air in the line. It does not bother me too much. Overall though it works and I no longer get a banging sound when the refrigerator valve closes for Ice Making or Water Dispersion. I just hope my refrigerator filter is good enough to filter the Prop 65 chemicals.

Make sure you check the sizes...
I thought this was 1/2" in 1/2" out, my bad for not reading more carefully. In the end I just used the box and removed the valve, replaced it with another Sharkbite one. My box does not sit quite flush with the wall, I think I need to cut off /trim something, seems designed to mount against the stud instead of against sheetrock.
