Good for small projects

Did a 8x5 garden. Soil was a bit hard to break up. Went down about 8 inches. It took about 1.5 hours of aggressive tilling to rotate the soil on ground that's never been broken up before. It never missed a beat. Thought i was gonna break it for sure, but it just kept going. Blades could be a bit better in terms of sharpness to dig better, but overall a good buy. I'll update here if it breaks.

Interesting rototiller

Initial testing review, April 2023: Build quality such as steel handle thickness and fit are better than expected. Tines depth is a little smaller than expected. Compared to long tine gas tillers the Scotts rotation speed is much faster. The result is it kicks out rocks and roots pretty fast. Also the dirt gets thrown around more. The depth of effective tilling is roughly 4-6 inches. If dirt is pulled away using the tiller it may go to 8 inches. It doesn't like being buried and bogs down. It works great to mix and cut up leaves and clippings in the 4-6 inch range. As is always the case with electric, cord management is a challenge. With rock and root free soil, it's very fast due to the fast rotation speed. I wouldn't use it in soil with lots of rocks and roots. It gets pretty jumpy with anything it can't break up or cut. No tiller does well with hard materials but this one reacts badly. This tiller worked well for my needs. Roughly 2+ inches of leaves, grass, and compost bin materials were quickly mixed into the top 6-8 inches with a few passes. One 12-2 50 ft cord was used. To the main panel maybe 100 ft max. No over heating issues were observed. I wish Scotts would make optional longer inner tiller tines to be used with 2 tines. Deep tilling is rarely needed but it's nice to get organics deep once a year or so.

this thing is a beast deff works

get the 20 inch model its well worth the money this thing really does work you deff get a workout using it but it worth it and save yourself 500 bucks vs buying gas one. if you already have a garden this thing will till it up quick to plant for the new season. if you're starting a new garden this works great to. if you're looking for electric one that is pretty close to the gas deff get this you won't be sorry.

Just what I needed…and still do

Bought this to mix soil and amendments for my greenhouse, and to prepare successive seed beds in previously tilled garden. Do not buy this if you are thinking it will meet seller’s claims. It did however meet my expectations initially, except for the all plastic design. It has good power, tills at a nice slow to medium speed, and is very controllable. Then the inevitable bad. Less than 2 hours of use, a little clunking noise started. Within minutes it turned into a noise I associate with impending failure in plastic machines. Maybe a plastic screw gear drive? Lucky for me it was day 29. Bad for me, it worked so well for what I wanted, I really wanted it to work out.

TOP DRAWER IN MY BOOK!

We have four Raised Bed Gardens that hadn't been turner over in a while so I decided to purchase this/CORDED TILLER as I knew the Soil was Compacted and would require LOTS of POWER to BREAK IT UP & TURN IT OVER> THI(S TILLER LIVED UP TO MY EXPECTATIONS!

Small but strong

Small roto tiller-great shoulder workout ????️‍♂️ not for huge gardens, but tilled my 12 by 12 plot easily ( hard clay soil mix )
