Just what I needed to put up my pickles/jalapenos
This slicer does exactly what it says-it easily slices pickles, yellow squash, and other fairly hard vegetables. With onions, I found it was best to quarter the onion to get good even slices, as such a large item wanted to tear off as opposed to slice off at the rear. Hey, it is very sharp! I embarrassingly cut my thumb while slicing up my very first cucumber. Please use the provided plastic holder once the item being sliced gets thin, and pay close attention to that! Great value for my cucumber slices/cold pickling, and so much faster than knife cutting each slice!

Huge Help In Slicing Veggies!
This works great, and it is completely safe when used as directed. The plastic grip and hand protector does not skewer/secure the vegetable being sliced. It simply holds the vegetable while you glide it back and forth. I start by cutting one end flat, and then off you go! Super easy, safe, and fast! However, before I figured out how to use the plastic protector, I thought I could just slice the potato with caution. Wrong! I cut off the corner of my thumb, and it bled for 2 days. It is still healing now after 5 days! This was 100% my fault as I didn't follow the directions. Do NOT move your vegetables with your unprotected hand under any circumstances. Use the grip as provided and directed. You will be completely safe. Great, time-saving product. Highly recommend!

Simple. simple. simple
This mandolin is for those who want a simple device, no blades to change in and out. It slices. Very well. and there are only 3 settings, which is more than enough. Blade locks with no gap so you can clean without slicing your. Love it.

Great slicer!
Great slicer which is very easy to use. I love that it! Best part is that it has the safety lock built into the product. It also can tackle big jobs of slicing while taking up little space in kitchen drawer.

Whoever doesn't have one of these, NEEDS one!! Love that is has several thin/thick options and closes all the way...which is very important with such a sharp blade.

It's a little bit hard to use; has a very sharp blade that could be dangerous if kids try to use this product. Works ok, but not as easy as I expected.

Make's quick work of thin slicing.
I wish it were longer. When working on cutting board it's hard to get a full stroke and stuff piles up under the board too quickly and you have to move it out. It might work fine over a bowl but that's not the way I roll or slice.

Slices and grates well
It does the job except the plastic holder piece doesn’t grab a good hold of the veggies when slicing. It sometimes slides off, so I have to press down real hard to slice. Also I have to start the slicing without the gripper holder which could be dangerous if not careful. So I use a large cut sized vegetable starting out then as it gets smaller I switch to the gripper. Be careful to switch the knob on side to the closed position for safety before washing and storing. Also, a folding stand would be a nice addition to this to keep it from sliding while slicing. It’s an ok tool.

Great product
Works great. Nice and sharp and can slice a ripe tomato with precision. Princes off and doesn't take up much space in the cupboard. Making a salad just got quicker!

Really love this product. The only downside is the safety guard doesn’t always hold food in place. Otherwise really easy to use and clean but watch your fingers, it’s very sharp!

Works brilliantly and has adjustable thickness, plus terrific hand protection.
[As with any sharp tool, please do NOT allow children to use unsupervised (if at all), in particular, do not put fingers into the green-lined hold in the food feeder / hand guard.] I was a bit nervy to try a mandolin, but my better half loves fried potatoes and slicing them is a real chore. So, decided to give the Progressive Smart Slice a try. I'm so glad I did. It has a 4-level adjustment dial for thickness (plus a 5th setting to completely close the blade for safety), and a row of pop-up cross blades to julienne. The hand guard has two parts: a clear round food holder attaches via a groove on one side, so it won't comes apart from the mandolin while slicing; and the hand guard / food feeder which fits into the food holder has a curved opening where your fingers fit to manipulate the holder. There is also a round hole in the hand guard, but don't put your thumb in there! -- this is to feed 'skinny' items, such as carrots, upright for slicing. Then when you want to grate, lift up the hand guard temporarily, flip up the white lid, replace the hand guard and hey-presto, it's a grater. Other nice features are the non-slip feet, the groove near the bottom for slicing / grating straight into a bowl, it's dishwasher safe and folds away for storage (you may want to retain the product box, if say, you only want this for summer salads). Nice and worth the price! [£24 - March 2014]
