These were made for above kitchen counters, but I'm using one for the living room and one for the dining room (2 in great room). They can handle 100 watts. That means I could put in LED bulbs that are comparable to 150 to 200 watt regular bulbs. My old light fixture used 25 watt and 40 watt candle light bulbs. I hated them because there was never enough light and they put out an orange glow. This lighting is capable of putting a white glow. Here are the negatives. I wanted 2. I ended up ordering 3 because 2 came to me damaged and broken. 1 the metal was bent. 1 the glass was shattered. So I salvaged the good pieces to make 1 good light. The installation was a pain. The chain is much stronger than others I worked with. Installation is harder than Hampton Bay. Even with all this, I'd gladly go through it all again because for me it is worth it.

Foyer Light

I initially spotted this light on another website, but purchased from Amazon after comparing cost and Prime shipping. Packing was well padded and despite a small gouge in the box, all was intact within. It replaced a fixture in a small two story foyer, in a townhouse with a modern vibe in the architecture. My furnishings are more traditional, and the style of this fixture is clean lined and classic enough to nicely bridge the styles. Due to the open floor plan it is part of the lighting in the living room as well. The opaque inner glass of the fixture means there is no glare from an open light bulb, and the position of the bulb in the fixture makes it possible to change bulbs without using a a ladder (handy since it is over stairs.) Pre-installation, I had concerns that a single 100 watt bulb might not provide enough light, but this worry was unfounded. I had it professionally installed, so I cannot comment on the instructions. I love it!

Beautiful, but a bit hard to hang.

We love the light. The only complaint was the he difficulty with opening up and closing the links in the hanging chain, particularly trying not to mar the black finish. Some reviewers suggested that the links were not very strong, so I doubled up the links I used.

Still in style after 4 years.

These were heavy and the contractor needed to add extra support for the electrical boxes. I still love the look.

Dramatic Foyer Light!

The photos don't do justice to this light fixture! Even photos of this fixture in my home don't illustrate the dramatic look and feel you get in person. Because the light bulb used is hidden behind the opal glass, you can use a more efficient bulb without degrading the fixture's appearance. I originally installed a CFL but replaced it with an LED. The light looked good with both types of bulbs. Because it's an open fixture, you don't have to worry about the bulb getting too hot. It's the outer wavy clear glass encircling the opal glass that makes the striking look, especially when lit. Ours is hanging from a sloped ceiling about 9' high. What seems like a large fixture when prepping for install turned out to be the perfect size hanging in our foyer.

I saw this in a lighting store over a year ago and I loved the style and soft lighting. I thought it would look perfect in my foyer but I held back because of the price. I continued shopping over the next year but never found anything I liked as much. When I found it on Amazon at half the price, I pounced. I got exactly what I wanted at the best price and it was delivered right to my front door.

I love this light

I love this light, but you will need to get a converter mounting kit if you are going to replace a recess ceiling light. We were lucky and placed it in a foyer that had a well mounted electrical box and the mounting kit worked perfectly. Do not buy this light from amazon. I found the same light at Home Depot for $189.00. Considerably less then the price I paid for it on amazon.
