Choosing the right spline diameter is CRITICAL to a successful repair.
This screen spline is made in the U.S.A. by Prime-Line in Redlands, California (www dot primeline dot net). Part number P7524 is made from 0.180 inch diameter black nylon and is shipped in 25 foot rolls packaged in a plastic bag. Unlike window spline which is usually U or T shaped, P7524 screen spline is a hollow tube (to allow compression) with a serrated outer surface (to increase frictional gripping). I measured the roll I received at 24 feet 11 1/2 inches but, to be fair, the material is very flexible so sagging could easily have given me a half inch error. The diameter mic'ed out at exactly 0.180 inches (a little less than 3/16 of an inch). Replacing a screen in a door or window is a fairly straightforward process. You pull out the old spline and screen, cut the new screen and set it into place with the new spline. using a screen roller tool. To hold the screen, the spline is pushed down into a U channel on top of the screen material. As simple as that seems, I know from experience that it can be very frustrating if you don't get the right spline diameter...the right diameter is CRITICAL to a successful repair. If the diameter is too small the spline and screen will fall out. If the diameter is too big, you risk warping or cracking the aluminum U channel of the frame. As an example, I pulled out some old spline from a screen I was replacing, mic'ed it, and ordered the diameter I measured. Unfortunately, the old screen turned out to be slightly thicker than the new replacement screen so the spline diameter was too small for the installation. As a result, I had to order another roll of larger diameter spline. Furthermore, the frame channels of the screens I am replacing seem to vary in width from window to window. By the time I am done, I will have a pretty good collection of splines of different diameters. The problem is that there seems to be no standardization within the industry. Searching the Prime-Line website results in a listing of thirty different spline diameters ranging from 11/64 inches to 17/64 inches. I am giving it five stars, but you may want to give it one star if you get the wrong diameter. Remember pet resistant screen is thicker than standard screen so you probably need a smaller diameter spline if you are upgrading to pet resistant screens.

Material is very pliable - unlike the junk now sold at Home Depot and Loews
This type product use to be available at Home Depot and Loews but in persuit of cheap prices, both these stores started stocking up with products of made of hard vinyl which neither fit well into the frame groove nor contracted and expanded to allow for quick installation like this material does. Total frustration with junk from both Home Depot and Loews forced me to look elsewhere and I am happy to report this spline and the material it is made from is great. What had become a frustrating job replacing screen mesh is now easy. Just goes to show that if stores are going to stock crap, customers are going to leave.

Holds great
Our dog knocked the screen out of the frame and tore the spline in the process. This worked great for repairing the door and preventing us from having to buy a new one.
