Great pads for my grandchildren

My grandchildren love to have their own pads when they come to my house. These are perfect little gifts for them. Coming in a pack of four made it easy for the children to each have one. They also travel easily .

Fits in ziplock bag

Great size drawing pad! Fits easily in a big ziplock along with markers and crayons. Good value.

Perfect for Operation Christmas Child! (OCC)

Comparatively excellent! It’s hard to find a sketchbook with nice, white, smooth paper, made with some substance! This is not your average newsprint paper, but is much thicker and nicer. I’m proud to use these in my OCC, Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes! ????

Warning: Not for Pre-schoolers!!! Buy a cheap package of printer paper, and let the art roll on!

Against my better judgement, I listened to Melissa & Doug's recommendation that this was a great pad for 3, 4 and 5 year olds. Boy were they wrong, wrong, wrong. Preschoolers put their whole body into drawing -- they lean in, lean over, and basically become one with the paper, and the table top. Plus most of them use a fisted grip to hold the crayon or marker, which means they draw with broad strokes and wiggles. They just aren't developmentally ready or able to draw in tightly conscribed spaces. To top it all off, these pages aren't very sturdy: A vigorous artist is going to tear right through them. I suspect the thinking behind this design is a response to parental frustration at how quickly little ones on a coloring jag can go through paper. But I don't think the answer it to reduce waste by making smaller, child-discouraging pads. Instead buy some cheap packages of printer paper, dole them out two or three sheets at a time and then turn them over for more coloring before handing out any more. And then of course recycle (sooth the reluctant recycler by snapping pics of the artwork deemed not up to the standards of the refrigerator door.) That said, these pads are perfect for 4 to 6th graders, particularly girls, who are in that teeney-tiny drawing stage. Little, compiex artwork will fit fit well on these pages and the artist will feel satisfied that the work is neatly contained and not lost in a sea of white!

Not a great value

I purchased these pads for Operation Christmas Child. They were there perfect size to fit in the box. However, they were a little thin on paper (50 sheets) for the cost of each pad. The photos show the pad in the shoebox and the pad from the side/how thick it is. If you're looking for something small, this is good, but if you just need a good pad of child's drawing paper, I think you can do better.

Perfect for kids

My 6 yr old granddaughter loves to draw and is doing a lot of practice. that means she goes through a lot of paper. These are perfect for what she does because they are relatively small, which means by the time the paper is filled up, she's ready to move to the next one anyway. Small enough to fit into a bookbag and take in the car or just manage at the kitchen table, they are bigger than a notepad but smaller than a notebook. They are perfect for a kid.

Light weight paper

Ugh. The product description says "premium heavy weight ... great for paints". I don't think so. The paper is very thin, no more than cheap printer paper. There isn't an actual paper weight given, but I trusted Melissa & Doug to deliver on their word. I was wrong. At $4 per pad of 50 6x9 sheets, it's not cheap, and unfortunately it's not thick enough, in my view, for paints.

Tiny pads

I was disappointed. I under estimated the size. They are small and not ideal for older artists. Maybe for certain projects and little kiddos but not a hit in my house with artist 6 years of age and up.
