Don't spend more on other manufacturers. These are solid!

I purchased a non locking 'sample' lever (to see if I liked it or not) from HD since all the non locking levers are actually less expensive there whereas the privacy ones are cheaper on Amazon. Go figure. I'm not sure what brainiac developed the 'bulk' purchase prices here on Amazon, but they need to return to 4th grade math class. I ended up loving these and purchasing multiple 'single' locksets as it's the most economical way. Back to the review... I purchased the same Milan exterior lockset by Kwikset and was underwhelmed because it had too much slop in the handle. I kept it but wasn't overly impressed. The interior handles are different I'm happy to report. Previously I purchased an entire house worth of more expensive Emtek Stuttgart levers a few years ago for old house. I loved the solid feel of them and the style. I'm running out of money here and wanted a less expensive option but still the same style. These are rather amazing; and if you didn't tell me, I wouldn't have known the difference betweent the two manufacturers. These are HALF the cost of Emtek and still very modern looking and solid. There are two visible screws on the back but Emtek has those too. It requires about a 50-60 degree turn to open door and not the entire 90 degrees I was fearing. I'm glad the mainstream manufacturers are getting hip with style. These are a great find at a reasonable cost. One recommendation would be to purchase the round rosette or backplate or whatever you want to call it. That's because the square ones inevitably become loose through usage and then are out of square and lopsided looking. The round one will just rotate and never look lopsided which means no future adjustments or scratching your paint on the door.

Robust levers and strike plate. SmartKey perfect for retrofit

I like the robust, modern design of this lever product. For ergonomic reasons we replaced our garage to mud room entry door knob system (the most used door in our home by far) with the Kwikset Milan Keyed Entry Lever design. Our home was built with Weiser keyed locks. The Kwikset SmartKey system matches our now-obsolete Weiser keying, making this brand a no-brainer. I read reviews critical of the fit-up and quality control issues with this Milan Lever product, but I experienced none of these problems. The packaging was new, no missing parts or damage, and the Milan installed flawlessly in 5-minutes. The SmartKey "programming" was a piece of cake! The robust strike plate makes the door close cleanly/crisply and feels very secure. The only slight drawback is that, as mentioned in other reviews, the interior-side lock button is cheap plastic with a chromed metal cap. I don't see this locking button as a long term concern because we rarely lock this lever from the inside (we happen to have a separate deadbolt for that). Bottom line is that this product earns my 5-star rating, for the very economical price, convenience of the SmartKey system, and the robust construction and great looks of this lever product. I will probably buy at least one more to replace other worn exterior levers.

Good handset; could be better

Bought a lot of these kwikset handsets for our large house - over 40 devices in all. These are great modern handsets, well engineered with a solid and quality feel. Easy to install as new or replacement handsets. As with all handsets, you have to fiddle with them slightly to ensure nothing is binding before final tightening. One complaint: these are not silent when you turn the lever. The spring makes a very slight noise. That’s not a huge deal, but it’s a little irritating when you’re leaving early in the morning and trying not to wake wife or baby. I’m not even sure they could hear it but I can hear it and it’s just not the smooth operation of the higher end more expensive products. I gotta believe kwikset could easily fix this with a modified spring design. The spring design might also be the cause of a slight sagging of levers on the outboard side. Interestingly, the inside levers don’t sag. Anyway, I can only give 4 stars to these handsets due to the springs.

Awesome modern look!

They are much better than the typical round handles. As some have noted, these do not go to center - slightly off downward - but not a real deal breaker for us - would rather have them center and there is not way to adjust otherwise (hence only 4 stars). One person mentioned his latch plate came as white - mine did too because it has a protective cover over it that you need to remove and now you have the right color. My home is older and has 2 inch door handle opening and these require a 2 1/8 inch opening. I had to buy a door hole kit (about $20) that mounts over your existing hole and comes with a 2 1/8 inch hole drill bit. It worked great.

A little too expensive

The media could not be loaded. We used the locks on old doors replacing the old locks and we are glad we did. Great lock and totally changed the look! ????

Slightly scratched, but not noticeable unless you're up close and looking for imperfections

I bought it used. The description said it was in good condition. When I received the product it had a few scratches on it. I considered sending it back, but installed it anyway, to see how noticeable the scratches were. Once installed, the scratches were not noticeable unless you're really looking for them.
