Rugged and does not set off the metal detector

I have to walk through multiple metal detectors throughout the day and try to limit how much I have to empty my pockets. While the carabiner is metal it is not enough to set off our metal detectors (your milage may vary depending on how sensitive they are set) so it's one less thing I have to take off. I had this for 2 years before it broke, and it broke because the retainer section got caught and tore the stitching. Wore it 5 days a week (minimum) and got it caught multiple times with no issues.

Sturdy, strong, holds everything without hanging down.

This is the best badge reel I’ve ever had, and I’ve had lots of them! I tend to carry a lot of stuff in the little wallet-like pouch I keep attached to my badge, and all the other reels I’ve tried don’t hold the weight and end up hanging down all day. This one holds everything I have attached, and would hold a lot more too. It seems sturdy and well-made, although I do wish the black casing around the string wasn’t so big, or at least came in better colors.

Cheap plastic housing wastes an otherwise reasonable product.

On the face of it, the product seems sturdy, but within three days, the bar connecting the belt clip to the retractable housing broke...after getting caught once. When getting out of my car, my badge caught on the seat belt, and on closing the door and rotating at a normal speed, the plastic bar immediately snapped. On searching the ground and finding the piece, I realized how flimsy the retractable cord housing was designed. The bar keeping the clip to the retractable cord housing is no more sturdy than a toothpick's worth of PVC! Luckily, I have a dremmel and steel luggage ties, so I just drilled through the plastic housing where the bar was to make it functional enough not to get stolen by a random passerby's curious Chihuahua (much less someone actually trying to take it). If Key-Bak wants to make a functional product, they should actually put some money into the plastics they're using (or just be smarter and make it out of something like stainless steel).

Must have for ID-Badge Employees!

I had originally bought one for work about 7 months ago and the clip which secures the holder to the belt strap broke off. I work in a building where every door to gain access to requires a badge swipe so its safe to assume I'm using this virtually 50 times a day. The extension itself is at a good arms length, maybe alittle more. These bad boys are pretty solid and sturdy. I can't tell you how many times I sat down on my desk and my badge gets caught on the chairs and it also pulls the carabiner. I've bought 2 more since then and my only suggestion is hopefully KEY-BAK would add a small key-ring next to the Badge Holder.

One year lifespan - exactly 1 year

I have owned 4 of these retractable carabiners - one per year for the last 4 years. I love the length of the cord (36"). It's what I need to badge into the gate from my car window. That said, they break in the exact same place every year, and it is not repairable at all. When I say "every year", I mean exactly every 12 months. That is planned obsolescence by Key-Bak and it's an absolutely deplorable way to make money. This is my last one. I'm searching for a new brand.

Hangs awkwardly low if clipped to a belt loop

It just arrived and after adding the ID badge it hangs awkwardly low. It seems well made the retractable cable seems fairly strong. The caribiner is plastic but seems sturdy enough for what it is. I just can't imagine this being practical for most people due to how low it hangs when clipped to a belt loop. I will be returning this.

Worth the money

I needed something that would not cause the cord to retract as I carry my ID and business cards together, this worked great. Very sturdy. The only thing I did not like about it, is the overall length, wish it was a little shorter. Defiantly recommend this item.

Bigger than it looks

Maybe it works well, but it was way too big for my needs. Was hard to tell from the photos how large it is.

Durable and will last a long time.

These seem expensive, but they’re worth the extra money. Our staff at work use their access cards constantly and cheap retractable reels don’t last. We’ve been using the same ones for over a year, so we bought more for other staff.

This is the best retractable badge holder I’ve had, it is a little big with the carabiner but worth it
