3/8 x 5 HSS Rod - Pretty Good
The 3/8 x 5 HSS rod I received is good. Finish is very good and ends were cut pretty square. Comes sealed in plastic with a lot of oil. Can't tell you how good the steel is yet. Only thing is that this rod is really 9.5mm which is only 0.3740 inches. It's okay for my use but if you need that last 0.001" it might not work for you. I base this on a sample of one.

Fine for my use
I bought this to grind into a one-point tool for woodturning. I’m pleased with the quality and hardness. Tolerances are more than adequate for my application.

there is a 10 degree cut in the tool on both edges. Picture is of a 90 degree edge
Perfect piece of tool steel. The 4 star is because the picture is of a 90* on the edge of the tool steel. Turns out the piece I received has a 10* cut off the end on both sides. Not the end of the world but not the picture. The description does state that there is a 10* edge so I guess I should have read the description better.

Buyer beware - it comes pre-hardened
Nowhere in this ad does it list that the blank would come pre-hardened, but mine did. I'll say one thing, they did a damn fine job hardening it. It is easily HRC 65+ all the way through, throughout the entire length. Took quite a while to grind to the shapes I needed. Ultimately, it's ok, I used it to make a broach for cutting keyways, pretty useful actually since it is hardened it seems to last just fine even cutting through tool steel, but it still would have been nice to know that it was going to be already hard.

Meets my precision requirements.
My readings indicate deviations of about .00015” runout from diameter and less than .001” on straightness. Planning to try the bars as well
