Total Install Review of the pro and cons and installation

I bought this product to replace an existing garage door opener. This job ended up being much harder than I expected. But also, much easier than I thought after looking at the directions. I thought this would be just a plug and play experience. It was not. The troubles first came when I opened the box and started reading the directions. Having never installed a Garage door opener from scratch these directions looked daunting. However, after reading them several times, began to make sense. After the job, I feel that the directions were actually pretty good. The ad said to make sure that I do not have a taller than 7 ft door. I had a 7 ft tall door. So that should have been a direct replacement. It was not. The ad should have you measure the distance of the beam from the header above the door to the end of the beam. Because my original beam was longer than the new beam it placed my opener bracket in between studs. So, I had to fashion a board to span the studs and then mount the bracket on it. This could be avoided by measuring your beam. The rest of the installation went pretty well, until it came to wiring the collision avoidance sensors and the wall button. Being an electrical engineer, I felt the original sensors would work just fine. They did not. So, I had to mount the sensors also. Then came time to program the opener to stop at the bottom and stop when fully opened. The directions were very clear cut on how to program these steps. After following the directions, I was unable to place the unit in programming mode. I could not tactilely feel the buttons actuating. I called the help line and was told it would be 30 minutes wait time. Rather than wait, I took off the cover and very easily programmed the opener . The help line responded after only 10 minutes, but I was just finishing up the programming. The problem is the that the plastic cover buttons do not make good contact with the buttons on the printed circuit board. PRO: Extremely quiet operation....Great value.....and solid build. Con: Seems difficult initially...the buttons for programming. Overall, I am very happy with the genie garage door opener.

Super easy and good product!

The setup of this can be shown through and app called Bilt. And it makes the setup so easy! Step by step animated guide that you can move around and view! Setup overall was easy and straight forward. There’s a few steps where it would be helpful to have a second person assist you, but I did the whole thing by myself too, so it’s up to you. Make sure your chain is one properly and tight and doesn’t slip off the gear drive or it’ll take extra time to redo it. The setup of travel distances is super easy, and it auto adjusts its own open and close force. The included buttons/remotes are nice and the wall button has a lock feature they don’t tell you about that when locked it prevents anything from opening the garage door, one extra layer of security which is nice.

Genie Garage door opener

Arrived quickly. Lower price than local stores. Includes comprehensive instructions. Included everything you need to fit from scratch. Kit has two pieces of angle iron. 3/8 x 3/8 x 24inches long. I replaced an old Craftsman unit. (New electronic panel was 125) so better to buy complete unit for 165 with new remotes, however this meant alot more work. took me about 4 hours total. Replaced old unit with new Genie and connected to existing garage wiring (very easy). Had to replace both old "magic eyes" with the new genie ones. Replaced old wall switch using existing wiring. ...... Door worked first time, remotes were already programmed. **Purchase 2 new generic remotes these paired up first time. It is SO much quieter than my old Craftsman unit and both are chain drives. 5 stars.

Genie Garage Door Opener

I've had this Garage Door Opener for about a month now, and I can't believe how quiet and smooth it operates. My old Genie lasted about 12 yrs, and I hope this one does the same. The directions seemed simple enough, but for things like this I think it's worth a couple hundred $ to just hire a professional installer that installs things like this full time. He had it up and running in about an hour. Would of took me probably 3 or 4 hrs. It's so quiet you'd think it was belt driven and not a chain. Great product so far.

Price is right and install was relatively simple

I did this myself after work on a Sunday and it was fairly simple to do. The package itself is great, it comes with all the stuff I wanted. Most of the troubles and extra time I spent was on unraveling the coil of wire that kept tangling up on me. The door limit setup was a pain to do, largely because of the design of the case. The buttons in the case are the most unresponsive things ever. I had to take it off to do it properly because it was taking so many button presses before it would set the presets that the timer ran out and it wouldn't save the limits I set. At that point it was midnight so I disengaged the door from the chain and left it until 3 days later. I took the cover off and had it setup right away. The support is not the best. I contacted them Monday and didn't get a response until a few hours later, but I replied within an hour and didnt get a response until today, none of which was very helpful. I just got lucky that the cover was the causing the problem. Hopefully it's that easy to set it to the home link in my car.

Easy install

Bought this unit to replace a 30 year old lift master. Hardest part was taking down the old unit. This new unit was easy to assemble because of its easy to read instructions, I’m a picture kinda person and they had big color photos to guide my way. The programming is very simple and straight forward, the entire job took about 2 hours. The unit is really whisper quiet, the add ons were a nice perk.I am Very happy with this purchase. Great work Genie.

A Good Value

With 2 included remotes plus a keypad this unit is a good value. Some assembly parts were missing but we were able to use parts from the old opener to replace them. The smartphone assembly app was a lot of help. The snap together rail seems flimsy compared to the steel rail of the 18-year-old unit. Setting the up and down limits requires several repetitions to complete the proper adjustment. The wall mounted button has separate light on off control.

Quiet

This replaced a 25 year old sears thing- it's much quieter -more compact and stronger- time will tell on quality- installed myself- good instructions- not difficult, just time consuming.
