Best for a smaller space
The maximum loudness of the plug in chime isn't particularly loud so this doorbell would probably not be loud enough for anything other than a small, single floor dwelling such as 2 bedroom apartment or condo. Even in these situations you would be unlikely to hear the chime through a closed door especially if there was music or a TV on. The instructions are basic and, as is typical, are in super small print. You need to open the door bell component in order to insert the included battery . The chime unit does not use batteries as it plugs into a wall outlet which I prefer over the units that use a battery powered chime. Opening the chime unit forces a plastic tab back which facilitates lifting the top cover to access the batter compartment. When I attempted to close the cover it would not latch as the plastic tab did not spring back to the closed position. I had to bend it back to the closed position before snapping the cover down. I don't know if the plastic tab will survive the next attempt to open the unit to replace the battery but that probably won't be for a couple of years. Drilling and screwing the doorbell into the door with the included screws is optional as the unit comes with a double sticky sided foam pad to use for attachment. I didn't want to use the adhesive as it would probably pull the paint off a painted surface if removed although the foam pad probably functions to some extent as a gasket. For a small residence this doorbell does a good job.

Great doorbell!
Super easy to install & great value. 2 different ring tones for front & back doors. Loud enough to hear in whatever room you're in. Our home is 2300 sq ft and I can hear the chime if I'm in the laundry room in the lower level with the washer running. Super easy to install. Not fancy but clean & efficient.
