Revised Review

I am embarrassed to disclose that my earlier negative review was premature. After writing a very negative review, I removed the diverter from my downspout and discovered the reason for failure was that leaves had clogged the device, and that is why it did perform as advertised. After cleaning, the device did perform and diverted water from the gutter to the rain barrel. I am only giving it 4 stars, as the tube to the rain barrel should be a larger diameter, to allow greater volume into the barrel. When it rains, a fair amount does go into the barrel, but a lot still continues down the gutter downspout.

Doesn't Last Long-Poor construction

The previous Emsco diverter I purchased worked just fine. [not sure if the purchase was through Amazon] The worse thing about it was it would get clogged or the hose would dry out and start leaking. With this particular one the top gaskets leaked and the hose wouldn't fit inside. I think the holes were jigged imperfectly. Very frustrating. I ended up using the original diverter with the new hose.....Wasted an hour of time!

Perfecto!!!

I used this item to provide rain water to the flowers I placed inside my trellis. It worked perfectly and my flower are thriving.

Best Diverter

Best Diverter ever. No complaints. Have it for over 4 years. Only wish the Diverter had a bigger hose to divert.

Almost but not good enough

The biggest two problems are the hose and the flow through design. During moderate to heavy rainfalls the through opening (the one that goes to the remainder of the downspout) isn't big enough and can't flow water fast enough. Water ends up coming over the top putting water right next to your foundation. The opening also isn't large enough to let any leaves through. Yearly cleaning is a must to prevent clogs. Aligning and getting the hose level isn't horrible, I used the other grommet in the unit and the seal on the rain barrel (after some modifications). The problem is that the hose is too stiff and gets dirty fast. It makes it hard to manipulate or get a good seal to the barrel. I purchased three of these units a couple of years ago and am in the process of replacing them with something better.

Works but water overflows

Generally works as expected. During light to moderate rains the water flows to the rain barrel or down through the downspout. However, during heavy rains the water can't all go get through the inner opening fast enough and overflows out the top of the box. Maybe some caulk around the top of the box against the downspout as another reviewer suggested might stop this problem...haven't tried that yet.
