A more secure option than most

I wanted a hitch receiver mounted carrier because I have no faith in bike carriers that clamp and strap to body, panels, trunk lids and the like. With so many different bike sizes & configurations, some trial & error is inevitable when figuring out a good method of securing, and the potential for scratched paint is too high with those types. Furthermore, a good proportion of bike racks are designed to only clamp the frame, with no provision to keep wheels from spinning or handlebars from swinging about. Thus you're left to do your best with bungees and such. This rack goes a long way toward addressing those issues. The loop tubes that secure the wheels are independently adjustable and the vertical frame clamps serve to actually "pinch" the bike in between. The rack positions the 2 bikes fairly close together side by side, so pedal and handlebar interference may prevent an ideal fit, making some trial & error necessary here as well. The loop tubes have velcro straps to go around the rims, but I found these to be ineffective and resorted to my trusty bungees to secure the rims to the loops. The vertical post folds down to allow access to a hatchback or tailgate, and the horizontal posts fold up to allow for more compact storage in the garage. The pivot points are all secured with shot pins, so no extra tools are needed. With so many adjustable & moveable parts, this rack tends to shimmy & wobble somewhat when loaded. This concerned me a bit at first, but the rig rides steadily down the road and I've noticed no alarming motion when taking corners or going over bumps. I'm sure that if the designer incorporated a few more sleeves, thrust washers and such that most of the wobble could be eliminated, but for the money it does just fine.
