It works.
It's 2 for 2 retrieving square bill crankbaits from flooded timber so far. It works as you'd expect. It definitely wasn't a 2 man job. I'd buy it again, no regrets.

Works occasionally, but frustrating to use.
It works occasionally, so it has paid for itself. I'm about to replace the dumb piece of string it came with with a longer piece of braided fishing line so it can sink down and smack lures free better. Maybe lead core? It may sink better then. Since I'm in a maneuverable kayak, I can usually get my stuff free without it. When I get to the point of trying this thing, I'm usually good and stuck or other terminal tackle is in the way of this sliding down to the lure properly (Carolina rig or swivels). You have to be directly over the lure you are trying to get free or it won't slide down the line properly. If you direct tie with a thin knot like an FG to your leader line or use straight flouro/mono then this thing has a better recovery rate. It will get all tangled up in its own string if you bounce it around down there too long. So bring it back up to check it occasionally while using it.

Saved many crankbaits!!
Wish I would have bought this years ago. After a trip out where I lost several crankbaits that got hung up I decided to buy this lure retriever. The first trip out with it in my boat, I was able to retrieve 6 snagged crankbaits. Well worth its weight in gold.

String not installed correctly
Like the chains. These are seconds. Factory did not run the line through the guide slot. ALSO, they had 2 loops of line behind the spool so the line could not go out. 3 minutes to fix it, but would have rathered it been done correctly at factory. Remember to tie a wrist strap or safety line through the circle wire on side of reel so you don't lose it.

Saved my umbrella rigs twice in one day
Worked as I had hoped. I added a large treble hook to the chains to assist in grabbing the rig and it saved me money twice now. Hope to never use it again but glad to know it’ll work if I do.

Money Saver!!!
Saved me a lot of money on lures. I do not go fishing without one. But be aware that the line sometimes frays on rocks and debris, and it does break off if it does. Lost two that way. but overall a great product.

kinda sorta works
probably would work well from a boat with the vertical drop. From shore (the only time I used it ) it is hard to get the velocity needed. It actually got snagged itself on the small rocks. I think this is true of all the line slider weights. I like the reel and cord that come with it and its compact storage. I think from shore it would work best on short distances on a normal bank. MY first try was on a lure snagged on a ground cloth exposed on rock pile.

Hard to use but good tool
Great in theory, much harder to use in practice. If you have a leader on larder than 1 or 2 inches it wont reach your hook. Its heavy so it usually wants to pull down before the lure. You can throw it and pull it over which is what I had to do is most cases. However it wouldnt get tangled or stuck enough to be able to tug on it. I have it in my box just in case, it's worth a try when a lure is 40.00.
