Runs too large

The waist is too big, I always wear a 32 and the Columbia shorts fit more like a 34, one size too large. It’s a shame as I bought this brand before and it fit fine. The size changed. Either order a size smaller or shop another brand. I have to return these. Update: I ordered the 30 and it fit perfectly. I like these shorts - but, they run one size too big. My actual waist measures 33”, I usually order size 32 in all other brands.

Nice Shorts – Men Or Woman’s?

I saw theses offered on Amazon & they looked very inviting so I ordered a pair – after all Columbia is no slouch. I received my pair rather quickly – much to my surprise – they were the wrong color & 2 sizes too small. Bummer. Rather than returning them, I asked my model to see if they fit her – perfect fit on her. So this review is from a part woman’s side and also from my observations. But I can say that in the correct size these would be very nice on me. I must admit that I could get the shorts buttoned – but that’s where it ends – I could not sit or bend with that extremely snug fit. Pros:  Externally & internally very well crafted  Seams tightly stitched with excellent heavy thread – won’t rip @ the seams  Tactel Nylon material – better longevity than rayon and cotton  Nylon is easy to wash, extremely versatile, and is rot and mold/mildew resistant  Nylon Feels slippy/silky to the hand  Tactel Nylon is used very effectively to block UV Rays from the Sun  10” inseam covers to the top of the knees – perfect length for me  Zipper length not any issue for females Cons:  Zipper length – 5 inches – is not long enough to fully unzip the shorts  High inseam cut in the crotch – could be looser for men  The 2 Cons are not a deathblow - but a 1 Star deathblow The one observation that I had was on the UV protection. The inside of the side pockets & around the “butt” portion of the interior of the shorts have a mesh-like material. I am not sure if this adds to the UV protection of the Tactel Nylon or is a construction “feature”. It does not make any difference if these shorts fit me or not, my observations & review would not have changed. Even with my 2 Cons, I still feel that theses shorts are ranked 4 stars.

Good traveling shorts!

For Columbia men's shorts, it's been a bit of hit or miss. They've made some shorts that are terrible... shallow front pockets, semitransparent material, and cargo pockets that won't hold a larger phone. But I like these Columbia Men's Smith Creek Cargo Shorts. They are similar in material to one of my favorite pairs of Patagonia shorts, which has lasting power. The front pockets are not deep, but not as shallow as some models. There's one cargo pocket on the left leg with Velcro tabs, and all phones will fit in it. The two back pockets also have Velcro tabs (I'd rather have zippers), but there's also a flap which covers the opening. I'll add these to my collection of shorts that I'll take on my travels. I would like one zippered pocket, designers!

Lightweight, comfortable and great fit

I am a big fan of Columbia branded clothing and these shorts only add to my enthusiasm. I am about 5' 7" tall, with legs to match, and the 10" inseam on these shorts really helps keep me from feeling like I'm wearing an oversized pair of shorts. I'm of medium build, and these are cut to fit so that they are not baggy or sloppy looking. The fabric is light in weight but sturdy and breathes well. Very comfortable with just enough give, but still able to keep their shape. I like that they are light in weight because it allows me some flexibility in what and how much clothing I bring on summer trips. There is one full-sized cargo pocket on the left thigh that is of sufficient size to hold a large phones or a wallet, among other things. It has a velcro closure and is made of the same material as the shell of the pants on both the inner and outer surfaces. The front and rear pockets are all lined with netting, which is great for draining out random dust and sand, but will definitely snag on any small or rough items - not a good place to put pieces of fishing tackle, for instance. All that said, I really like these a ton and will likely over use them this summer.

Lightweight Travel Shorts

These shorts are nylon but look like cotton. They dry fast! The zipper is too short. They fold up compactly: you could stuff them in the cargo pocket of another pair of shorts. They are wrinkly, but look OK that way. The pockets are all mesh and the back pockets have a fold-over velcro flap. There is one cargo pocket on the left leg. Great for hot and humid weather.

Great, With One Minor Issue

I have a few other clothing pieces by Columbia, and have learned to trust the brand. These shorts are made of a soft but sturdy tactel nylon, that washes well and dries quickly. They also feature double stitching for reinforcement. The pockets are made of a netting material, adding airiness, which is great when wearing them in hot weather (see picture). They're available in 2 lengths, so the 32"x10" was the perfect length for a short person like me. The 2 back pockets and the side cargo pocket have velcro closures, making them very convenient during outdoor activities, since belongings can be secured. The waistband fit perfectly, but I noticed that it stretched out after a days worth of wearing the shorts. However, the waistband shrunk back to the original size after I washed the shorts. Other than this minor issue, I love my new shorts and know they'll last for a long time, just as my other Columbia pieces.

You can never go wrong with Columbia. The shorts are great quality and lightweight. Perfect for working outside in the South Alabama heat. They are very versatile. They can be dressed up with a nice shirt or can be worn outside every day. Very happy with this product and would ABSOLUTELY recommend it to anyone. We will purchase more of these
