Why Did Wait So Long ?
30-50 years ago I was a great Casio fan and then I just stopped wearing and buying watches when cell phones appeared. Well, I finally have come full loop and put away the cell phone and strapped back on a Casio watch. I won't go into the merits of a cell phone, but I will talk about this watch. The thing I thought I would HATE was the wrist band. As it turns out, the wrist band is great. It is some type of vinyl that actually stretches, so I can tighten it so it does not slip but is also not too tight. You done good Casio. The feature I thought that I would LOVE was solar. And I do love the solar charging feature because I don't have to ever worry about a battery! Honestly, it has so many great features that I've not had time to learn all of the features. Sufficed to say, I'm never going to be afraid of straying off the beaten path again as long as I have this watch on. With a Spot X and this watch you are all set for the outback. Stop thinking about it and just buy one and get trekking.

Love it
So I had the older Pro trek watches back in 2009 on deployment. I loved it. Took a really good beating and lasted many years after. So I decided to try this one out. Now let me tell you I’m more into smart watches. I’ve owned many garmin tactixs as well as Apple Watches. So going back to a regular watch was kinda difficult. But for a regular watch. You can’t beat it. I have no problem reading the time. I know that some of the complaints but it’s like that for a reason. Military guys would understand. I would definitely trust this watch if I was to go back overseas. I would definitely look into some of the other pro trek series as well in the future. I definitely recommend this watch.

First try at a digital watch and I'm not disappointed
I like analog watches and have had nothing but for all my fairly long life. Decided to go for the Pro-Trek digital and really like it. It has the features I wanted and being a Casio, features I'll probably never use. I own a couple lower priced G-Shock models and they are larger than this Pro-Trek. The band is more comfortable on the Pro and makes me wonder if I can change the bands out on my G-Shocks similar ones? Anyway, the watch looks great on my wrist. Very comfortable. Really like the solar battery feature. By the way, I've noticed some reviews freaking out that the battery didn't charge in a short time. Might take a couple or three days . After it gets there, it take very little light to keep the charge up. Went on a trip, locked one of my Gs in the safe and after a week in the dark, still fully charged. The instruction book is huge, but it has a bunch of different languages. It is laid out pretty good and you can get running relatively quickly. Functions are clear and easy to use. You will have to calibrate barometric pressure and elevation, easy to do, and it seems to be accurate after calibrated. Temp reading will need to be done off wrist, so kind of useless. Will set the time off the atomic clock, but that can be tricky because it needs to be near a window and not be moved. I found it much easier to do a manual hookup a couple times a week. Easy to do and more reliable. 650 feet water resistant. My ears start to hurt at about 10, so I'm good there. Display is a tricky one to rate. Display is generally excellent, but can get a little less so when it starts to get dark. Leave the auto light function on and the backlight works great. I'm 72 and have no issue with the display, but can understand if someone might. Analog watches done right, can be near works of art and the two Gs I have are beautiful to look at. Digital is more functional then art, my opinion. But, this Pro-Trek gets very close to art. It is a great looking watch and you won't be disappointed with the function.

The all-black face of the watch is a little hard to read.
I bought this watch to replace my Casio Pathfinder watch which I have had for at least12 years. The Pathfinder was the predecessor to the ProTrek. In selecting the PRW-3510Y I was concerned with the size (53.4 mm diameter) and weight (94 grams). But I wanted the time keeping, SS Benzel, 200m water resistance, and other features of this model. Now that I have the watch in hand, the size and weight is not an issue. However, the all-black face of the watch makes it a little hard to read, at least at a glance. The green Silicon band is terrific.

Much Improved Inverted Display from Previous Models
I have always liked Casio Watches, and also like the idea of an Inverted Display - but previously they left me "in the dark" (pun intended). I have owned a PRW-3000-2CR, (also inverted display) - purchased in 2015 - and the display was very difficult to read. I read the reviews on this display - and decided to take a chance - GLAD I DID. The difference is very apparent. Is it quite as easy to read as a traditional Black numbers on Gray background watch - (of which I own several)? To be honest - in some lighting - no --> but, I certainly have no issues seeing it in all but the dimmest lighting - and I think the uniqueness of the display is worth any slight "readability" comparisons to the traditional black on gray. IF you really have visibility issues - the backlight is excellent. It's perhaps a bit large for some tastes - (compared to the PRW-3000-2CR) - but I like it, makes it stand out. The added bulk does not cause any issues with wearability. The newer Triple Sensor seems to be a bit more reliable also - but don't expect weather service, or topographical map precision, (especially with the Altimeter, (since it is based on the Barometic Pressure - and your elevation changes with the Barometer - even if you haven't moved a foot)). That said - it is definitely good as a general gauge of your conditions however. Compass seems spot on. I love the Solar Power and Atomic accuracy --> I have an Apple Watch -great watch, EXCEPT for the need to charge it DAILY. With this watch - wear it an forget it - unless you wear long sleeves constantly and it gets no light - it really shouldn't ever fall below High Battery life (and even if it does - just set it on the windowsill for a bit to "top off the tank" . All in all, a great watch - (albeit NOT a Smart Watch) - at a very good price, with good features - certainly more than satisfied.

To be honest, Casio's STN display only slightly improves legibility.
I really have become a fan of G Shocks this year,2020. My collection has the 9400,5610,gr8900 and protrek 3500(reg. display). I wanted a negative display for the look and discovered that the 3500 series had this one. I read many, many reviews about Casio's negative displays being harder to read compared to their normal ones. And it's true even with this one, even with the STN,lcd display. If you want to see a really good white on black, google Garmin Forerunner35. What makes a bigger improvement is that the size of the time display digits on the Protrek 3500 series are almost twice the size of say my Rangeman 9400. I want to comment on the ABC feature that very few reviewers are pointing out. The barometer graph is very limited in range. It usually can't handle a car trip which causes rapid changes in air pressure. You'll look at your watch and the graph is reduced to to a single flashing pixel. You'll think your watch is malfunctioning. It's not. It's briefly mentioned in the manual but not really dwelled upon because it's a weakness and Casio doesn't want to say too much. Your watch will restart a new timeline in a couple of hours. You can't prevent it by simply not displaying the graph. It's running in the background. The only solution is to wear another watch with no ABC feature when you go out,or get used to it,and don't let it bug you. Of course if you walk, it's no problem. The second point very few people mention is about receiving the radio signal for time sync from 12 am to 5 am. If you do get the signal, but only say a couple of times and you want more, try wearing your watch when you sleep on the wrist that is closest to your bedroom window. Snd don't hide your wrist inside your blanket! For some reason,I think your body acts like an antenna for the watch. Of course if your bedroom window is not beside your window then that might not help. Now, if you can't get any signal there is an app for Iphone and Android that simulates that time sync signal via your cellphone speakers, and you can manually sync your watch anytime of the day you want. How awesome is that? Its free for Android. Search for Atomic clock WWVB. For Iphone I think it's Clock Sync. It's about 1/2 seconds off from the actual sync but hey,it works. You can set more than one watch in manual receive mode and run the app. Remember to turn volume to max and put your watch right up to cellphone speakers on a flat surface and don't touch. You'll see in about 30 seconds the L1 then it goes to L2/L3 level. Keep your fingers crossed when you see it flipping from L2/L3. In 2 to 3 min your watch should sync and you'll have that received icon that you have been long yearning for! Hope you all find this review useful. Cheers. Jim from Vancouver. Stay safe from Covid 19.

Comfortable to wear and easy to use
Accurate time keeping, barometer and sun rise and set times proved useful on recent journey. Altitude once set is accurate and calibration during the day from known heights is easy to do. The compass also performs well. All in all a super watch and Time can be seen in poor light before its necessary to use the internal light.

Negative display is very dark indoors with normal light but very bright with direct sunlight.
Bought this because I wanted a large display screen to make reading it easier on my old eyes. The negative display, even though it’s the updated version, is not very bright while indoors. In fact, it’s very difficult to read at all. In daylight, it’s fantastic and clearly legible but indoors, you’ll be relying on the backlight all the time. That wouldn’t be so bad but now they don’t give you the option to have the light on as long as you press the button. It’s limited to 1.5 or 3 sec intervals. This is also NOT a G-Shock rated watch. It had all the functions I was looking for....pretty much but the dark display was a total deal breaker. It was a toss up between this model and the GW-9400 Rangeman. Chose the 9400 in the end and returned this one. Perhaps the positive display version of this is better but there were none available at the time. I wish this also had a countdown where you could select seconds as opposed to minutes and hours only.
